No, it can be used with a bead sight. Try this and see if this helps. Lift you head up and raise the weapon up to your eye level by shrugging your shoulder. This way your cheek is along the side of the stock and not laid down on it.

This is a very popular stock and the first complaint like yours I have heard. Adjusting the manner you are using the shotgun may do the trick for you.

If you're going to a gun fight, take a shotgun. If you can't take a shotgun, don't go.

I know our firearms are personal & should be configured in a fashion that works the best for the owner (shooter).

I didn't have a clue what kind of stock you were talking about until I Google it.

To each their own & like I mentioned earlier, what works best for me might not be the best to another gunner.

When talking about stocks for the 870, I've tried several different styles over the past 45 years on my Wingmaster. About 35 years ago, I found the best "set up" for me was the plain jane factory wood stock with a recoil pad installed. I attach a small strip of "skaters tape" in the comb (grip) area. Rock solid.

      Good Luck.

        Yup.

Sometimes you have to adapt to a stock shape.

One thing I've noticed is, sometimes shooters tend to put a stock low in the pocket in the attempt to use all of the butt area to spread out the recoil force. Raising it up so that maybe only the lower 2/3 of the butt are in contact with your shoulder will change the cheek weld and might improve the dynamics of the gun under recoil.

Hmmm I just aquired an Urbino stock for a Mossberg 930.

          Once installed will provide feedback.

            ><

I can say this about shotgun stocks from experience

The shooter should be able to get in their stance, stare at the target (stationary), mount the shotgun, immediately pull the trigger as soon as the gun is mounted and hit the target with comfortable recoil and no cheek slap.
(assuming the shooter can consistanly mount a shotgun correctly)

If the shooter can not do the above....the stock needs to be adjusted to the shooter or just chucked for something else.
A lot of the aftermarket Tac stocks are just horrable in the ergo catagory. Some you can just tell that it would hurt to shoot

The shooter should never have to adjust to the stock. You will not make the same adjustment each time if it is unnatural to do so. It would be like trying to change your natural walk to adjust to a bad pair of shoes.

sorry to hear this. i had the same experience with my urbino on an 870 as well. in order to avoid the cheek slap, i had to change my hold and stance, which then affected my sight picture. i figured it wasnt worth the hassle, so i changed it out for a magpul SGA with a limbsaver. minimal recoil, no adjustment in my hold and stance, no unnecessary cheek slap. haven't regretted the decision one bit. good luck!

I agree. In a perfect world, shooters wouldn't have to adjust to a stock, yet people keep buying stocks that make it a necessity in order to shoot them remotely well.

That's a personal choice many casual shooters make. Something tells me that very few tactical stock owners ever try shooting clays with them from a low ready.
