    Forend wrench for mossberg 500

Anybody in the bay area (i live in campbell) so preferably San jose area have a forend wrench I can borrow or use? Im doing a polymer to wood furnature swap and really don't want to buy a wrench for a one time deal use. Id be willing to supply a 6 pack of suds or a coffee as thanks for the use. Let me know!

If you remove the for-end/slide assembly from the magazine tube, you should be able to lay a piece of bar stock or other similar object like a steel 1911 bushing wrench into the slots and just spin it off.

You can do it with needle nose pliers.

Ive tried getting it off and it seems like its on there real good. Almost like its loctited. Im afraid I'm gonna bugger up the threads/notches if i wail on it too much. The barstock idea isnt a bad idea. I'll try that. Needle nose pliers im afraid will also just bugger stuff up. I have tried putting it in a vice already and placing a screwdriver in the notch and tapping counter clockwise to loosen and it doesnt want to budge.

Check out this thread, it has some nice suggestions. I don't know if the Mossberg slide is similar but the Remington 870 slide suggestion works perfectly.

Yeah - I have a stamped steel wrench that came with my router, and it is the perfect thickness to lay across and in those slots.

You might even be able to use a butter knife, if you can find one with a stiff/thick back. Take a look at the local thrift shop - they'll have a pile of them for cheap.

I got a piece of PVC pipe (I think it was 1", been awhile) cut it to match the slots. Worked great.

I got it off finally. It had developed some rust on the threads (god knows how...its never been in a humid locale or exposed to H20) and it was pretty well seized on there. I soaked it in penetrating oil and used a punch and a hammer to free the nut.

Now that you have it off put some anti-sieze compound on the threads. You will never have trouble again.

If you have a set of the L shaped Allen wrenches, one will fit perfectly.
