    Briley Choke Tube Retrofit *PICS*

So, I was passed down a 16 gauge Browning A5 from my great grandpa, and I have shot it a few times, but I wanted a "duplicate" that I wouldn't be overly concerned about damage with, and be able to find ammo more easily for it.
Alas, I found a 1947 Remington Model 11 at a local gun shop here in Elk Grove.

It came with a fixed full choke, and was only suitable for shooting lead shot. That was ok with me, but knowing the way the state is going with lead, I wanted to be able to run steel shot through this thing, AND have the versatility of different choke tubes.
I decided I was going to send this thing to Briley and have them retrofit this thing for screw in chokes. I sent it out on 9/5, and got it back on 9/25.

The way this works, is when they do the work on your gun they give you a card with your bore size, and series number. If you order more chokes in the future,(I will be ordering extended chokes for out in the field) you give them this info and they will make chokes to match your exact gun.

I FINALLY got to go out and shoot this thing today on the trap and skeet range. Trap, running full choke I shot 24/25! Skeet with the IC choke I shot 19/25, but today was only my fourth time shooting skeet ever.

In short, their customer service is awesome when you call. You go straight to an English speaking air breathing human, and they connect you straight to the gunsmiths who answer whatever questions you have. One thing I wish they could do is keep customers updated electronically of the status. I had no email or contact saying that they had received it, what stage it was in, etc. however this is a fart in a hurricane, because what they did for the price was well worth it to me. If you have an old gun that's still a shooter, I'd highly recommend sending it to Briley. NOW, if I can just actually find some Dove for the second half of the season, this gun will get some action!
    I fly everywhere backwards.

I've got a few shotguns which had become closet queens due to too tight of chokes. Sent them to Briley. Was happy with the work. It was cheaper then, but still not cheap. There's other outfits which install chokes, but briley was the only option for one of my guns due to thin barrels.

Not sure any of these old guns are good for a steady diet of steel though.

I would not worry about it Jager...open chokes, modern steelshot shells, shot size #2 or smaller is not going to destory the barrel if any at all with the new wads used today. Would I shoot steel through a high value gun and risk scoring the barrel, nope.
