NEW HAVEN/MOSSBERG 283 410 HELP

I just acquired a new haven/mossberg 410. It is a model number 283.No letters after the model #. No serial #.From what I have seen it probably is a 59-60? I would like to know the year but honestly don't care. I bought it cheap so my daughters could learn to shoot a shotgun. My only question being somewhat ignorant of the subject is about steel shot. Can I shoot it in that barrel. I had a early wingmaster that would not shoot steel. With lead heading south just trying to make sure I dont mess up here. Thanks for any info.

I have a Mossberg 183 .410 shotgun. These were never designed for steel shot. Will damage barrel.
