Picked up an old Remington shotgun recently that I would like to have the barrel cut down properly.
Looking to have this done in the Sacramento area. Any tips appreciated.

You might consider keeping the barrel for skeet or birds and buying an 18.5 one on line. The cost to do this is pretty much a wash. I'm assuming this is an 870.

consider picking up a time-period barrel from the online auction circuit. you'll be elevating your old Remington's potential to a multi-task shotgun and increase it's value. if you choose to do this, check out seller's buyer feedback rating and know what seller's return policy is prior to bidding.

By the time you pay someone to cut, crown and reset a bead on your Wingmaster's barrel, you could purchase one and have two barrels for the sake of versatility.

I concur with the above statement. I chose this route.
My 870 now rocks a Carlson's 18.5 chrome-lined with Rem choke.

I rarely take it off.

Buy a barrel. If you search online you can come up with several new in the box barrels.
