The fact of the matter is the Benelli M-4 is tremendously overpriced for what it is.....Period. What branches of the military, law enforcement, or anyone else for that matter who uses it, has zero bearing on this fact.
If common sense was so common, why don't liberals possess any?

      That is strictly your opinion.

And now Beretta has the 1301 Tactical available, which will run you 1/3 again as much as the 930 SPX, but is WELL WORTH IT!

The only problem I have had with the Beretta shotguns is that they are so good you are almost forced to buy additional models. I also bought an A300 Outlander for sport/clays and it performs just as well as my 1301.

Link to an in-stock 1301 Tactical:

EDIT: Note that the Beretta 1301's also come STOCK with some of the things you need on a home defense SA shotgun: Enlarged charging handle, bolt release and safety. All things you will pay extra for when trying to upgrade your 930 from stock.
I concur. The 1301 Tactical is a heck of a SA shotgun. I will have one in my possession shortly.

My 930spx is a champ. Just becuase its not a high dollar bolt action does not mean in deserves to be fed a cheap lunch...and no matter what some people may say, I personally have managed to lock up a few different well known shotfuns with cheap ammo. However, my SPX has managed to eat the f*** out of everything I feed it but I did heed some heavy shooters instructions for breaking the gun in by shooting nothing but high power slugs and 00 buck out of it for about 100 rounds or so. I have not done any mods or upgraded the gun in any way aside from adding a Nordic components extended magazine tube and a velcro side saddle.

True. And as I said, it's one I would love someone to challenge by showing me $1,700.00 worth of value in the gun.

Simple, look at all the threads where people are specifically complaining about having problems with the 930 and compare that to the amount of threads complaining of probs with an M4. As a worst case, use that situation in a home defense scenario and if you were the guy having probs with the 930-when you needed it most, then how much more $ would it be worth?

In the end we each have different levels of expectation for what their hard earned dollar provides. One more, one less...

The cost of an M-4 is going to insure nothing except for the fact your going to be poorer after you purchase it. M-4's have more than their share of operational issues. This is especially true of lower powered loads. Many will not cycle them correctly, if at all.

This is from a shotgun that advertises it will cycle everything from light low brass loads to the heaviest Magnum rounds. It accomplishes this no better than the lower cost models it competes with, if it even does it as well. For $1,700.00 the gun should run perfectly as advertised. Yet, in spite of it's advertising Benelli M-4's are notorious for failing to cycle light loads, when they constantly advertise they do.

As far as reliability, The record for autoloading shotgun reliability was set in 1978 with a Remington Model 1100 LT-20 twenty gauge. Over 24,000 rounds were fired without cleaning with no malfunctions and no parts breakage. No autoloader has ever broken that record. That gun sold for well under $300.00 in 1978. Today's M-4 with tax out the door goes for over 6 times that amount, yet cannot deliver the same reliability. That is fact, not opinion.

I have owned and shot both, have you done the same? have you stripped them down, compared fit, finish, form, function and reliability? I have and am hoping you have as well...but would guess otherwise. No shotgun will ever be 100%, however the Benelli complaints, pale in comparison, to the 930 complaints, but continue to convince yourself otherwise.

As far as remington, those are fantastic numbers, from one gun only.... With such an small & anemic company the size of remington, see why they chose to copy benellis argo gas system, with their new versamax. They could have done anything they wanted...but decided not to reinvent the wheel. im done with the back and forth, as I said earlier, to each his own.

I did a forum search for a buddy of mine I went shooting with today. He just purchased a new M4 Benelli and had some problems at the range today. He was shooting low velocity bird loads and it would fail to feed about every 3rd-4th round. He got upset and said that he was going to take it back. After much deliberation, I opted not to offer him a couple of hundred dollars for it 😉 (what can I say, honesty hurts some times). I told him I believed it was the ammo’s fault and not the gun’s...

Did you actually read through those threads, or watch the youtube video?

This is from the first thread you posted.

"Seriously, folks, my M4s will eat and eject stuff my rattle-trap Mossbergs will not. A break-in period is common to all machinery and an Italian shotgun is no different. These things were meant to run on full-power loads so asking a new shotgun to run on junk birdshot is a bit much sometimes."

This is from the header of the video you posted.

                          " Uploaded on Mar 20, 2010

What is it you're having trouble with? That a $1,700.00+ dollar shotgun that claims to feed everything can, and in fact does short cycle?

You made a claim that "Many will not cycle them correctly, if at all".

I posted a video showing several different types of low energy rounds cycling through the M4. The video you linked, the poster updated it saying it was a lubrication problem. The thread I read that you linked seemed to point to a break-in / lubrication problem as well.

I have no Problems with the Mossberg, and I own a few SG's made by them. I also own an M4 that has been flawless. If you don't like the M4, great. Don't buy one.
