How to fit a vented barrel on a new 870 express.

Well hey guys I found out for the 870 express 6+1 tactical shotgun, the Remington 4+1 barrels will not work. For some of you guys looking to fit a vented barrel on a 870 express 6+1. You will find nobody makes one where the mounting point is on the 6+1 870s. So here is what I did to make it work. I bought a 28 inch vent rib barrel 4+1 and made a spacer tube to fit a 6+1. I used a chop saw to cut multipurpose 6061 aluminum tube I got from the hardware store 1-1/4" OD. Make sure it cuts a perfect 90 and slow cuts. Then I hand sanded the inside of the aluminum pipe to fit the magazine tube perfect.

Now take it to the sander and deburring the edges and cleans up the ends. Final take some scotch bright to the inside and out to get ready for cerakote. Make sure everything is clean before you clean out for cerakote.

I used a Bridgeport to cut the tube for a cleaner design and lighter weight. Measure it to make sure the cuts are straight and perfect.

If you're going to a gun fight, take a shotgun. If you can't take a shotgun, don't go.

How did you decide where and what size to drill the barrel? I've considered doing the same, but don't want to experiment. Have you noticed any "real" benefit to your setup?

Mounts the same way. I did nothing for the cap. I just made a spacer for the mag cap and it keeps the barrel locked.

I didn't do anything to barrel. Just made a spacer from the magtube cap to the barrel lock. Yes I did see a benefit because this is the only way I can fit old style Remington barrels.

I'm sorry for not being clear. I meant the drilling for the ported barrel.

They are not old style Remington barrels, they are unchanged. What changed is the 25077 model you bought is a dedicated 6+1 and only one barrel is made for it and that barrel is specifically made for that model. You seem to have resolved the issue for that model if your modification holds up under use.

I simply mention the above incase anyone not familiar with the issue reads the Old style comment and thinks Remington has changed the barrels, which of course they have not.

He didn't port the barrel. He bought a ported barrel made to fit standard 870's, and manufactured an adapter that lets him install it to the 6+1 870.

O yeah the ported barrel keeps the gun down when shooting it. Helps with the recoil when you are shooting clays. Big improvement then before.
