I ordered a muzzle device, extended tube selector, barrel nut ,stainless steel followers and a but pad.
I wonder if the KSG will take a Modified choke? If it does, I'll be tempted to try and see if I can get a 25 on a round of trap with it. (I scored my 1st 25 on the trap field last week)

Anyway, it is interesting to see that shotgun shooters are typically very slow to adopt and accept new technologies in firearms. Take red dot sights for example,, mention this on web sites like shotgunworld.com and you'll get lots of hate posts from older shooters who have shot with their O/U for the last 40 years. Mention a bullpup and you'll probably fry their pace maker.

If you ask me, I'll say to keep an open mind about technologies. While wife and I shoot trap every weekend with our Benelli semi-autos, I can see how a design like the KSG can be useful. Compact, high capacity from factory and polymer design, makes for a nice home or camp ground defense shotgun. I would like to see a magazine fed semi-auto version, yes I know about requirement for bullet buttons, I have it on my AR but magazines from Thorsend Customs with UBBT installed makes it largely a non-issued.

I think you nailed down the best ones to do. The selector is a great one, as are the SS followers.

I've had no issues with vertical grips; either the Magpul that came on it or the Surefire I put on it. I'm not dumb enough to pull a trigger if a body part is in front of the muzzle.

When I left California, the KSG was barely on the market, and very costly. Since leaving, I have been told several different stories on it's legality. I know a fellow there who wants one, but he was told that they are considered illegal by CA DOJ. Can anyone give me the straight scoop on it? I have a chance to buy one, for $795 NEW, here in OK. If I bought it, and didn't like it, could it be sold, through the normal legal means, to my friend there?

you could call it a harsh crowd but I think people are just joking around, it's not personal.
I think it's a combination of people not liking Bullpups, not liking Kel-tec, that recent story about the vertical foregrip breaking off and the guy losing his hand and maybe a smidgen of jealousy.

and as Bigbearbear above put it -
" shotgun shooters are typically very slow to adopt and accept new technologies in firearms."

oh and happy birthday OP, your wife is very cool in my book to give you a nice present like that.

Definitely not jealousy. I'd b jealous if it were a benelli m4 tricked out but not a ksg.

^^^ not you SimonBirch, you're not the jealous type, I was thinking of myself. ;-)

would you turn down one for free it was given on the one condition that you could not sell it ?

for instance if your son was going off to do military service in a foreign country he gave his to you.

I know my answer even though like you it would not be my first shotgun of choice.

Yeah, something up front. I don't intend a vertical handgrip. I don't pick my KSG up until next Saturday. I've read that the bottom rail can bust out.

I have lots of shotguns...Benelli M4, Vepr12, several 500's, 590a1, 870's, 1300, TPS...I dig them. I also have a KSG, of course, and none of the above gives you the maneuverability of the bullpup. You simply can't do things with "normal" shotguns that you can with a KSG.

When I first got it, I would hang it at the top of the stroke coming back down. I'd have to let up all my pulling pressure and then it would free up and cycle smoothly. This is an error in technique and now I can stroke it 100% (lol). HOWEVER, because it requires forethought, the KSG wouldn't be the 1st shotgun I picked up if I needed one. Maybe after another 1000 rounds, but I probably won't shoot 1000 rounds through it any time soon. It's a cool gun though and the fella looking at one for $795 shouldn't give it a second though.

I use Magpul finger stops on mine with a C-more sight on the rail. The slip on recoil pad is a must IMO...this isn't a comfortable shotgun to shoot.

Good info, thanks. I have other shotguns as well and have owned others that are now sold.

I actually bought this on a whim, didn't really pay attention to the KSG and when I was offered this one NIB I spent a few minutes on google and looked at a few YouTube videos, I decided to get it.

Haha, I rarely turn down buying guns, even guns I don't need, it's a weakness I've always had.

I will probably Cerokote some Tan on her, buy a thick recoil pad, already have some Magpuls BUS in Tan, thinking about a simple Magpul AFG for upfront.

                      Maybe an EoTech.

Recoil doesn't bother me, been running 10MM, .308 in my rifles for decades. I used to shoot a lot of shotgun long ago, when our outdoor range would allow it.

Living in OC, it's difficult to find an indoor range to run shotguns.

I just picked mine up, most important accessory has got to be sights- it doesnt come with any! I put the BUIS made by palmetto on and they work fine. As far as vertical grip, i recomend a stubby one, the rail does seem flimsey with a std VFG. I tried the only one i had, a GG&G and it flexes ALOT. It has only one cross bolt, if you're gonna run a VFG I think you'll want one that has two bolts/recoil lugs to strengthen the joint, and is as short as possible, i think i'll just end up with a simple handstop on mine.

Speaking of recoil, this gun is light so the recoil with full powier slugs is punishing, i took it home and put 50 rds of birdshot and 25 slugs and it was unpleasant with the slugs- expect bruising (unless of course you're a gecko45 type). I am definitely gonna look for a better recoil pad.

I cant wait to try out aguila mini slugs, 2" slugs increases capacity to around 25 rds.

Btw, with 75 rds through mine i had 0 failures, i intentionally short stroked it though and was able to create FTF. In my (limited) experience with the weapon, I found that as long as you rack it with authority, it will function well.

I run mine with Magpul MBUS sights front and rear and a Magpul AFG in lieu of a vertical foregrip and it's good to go. I'm considering a recoil pad as well after mistaking a box of heavy game loads for extra lite target loads in my shooting bag... ;-)
