    Comb for Benelli M2

I've been using my 24" Benelli M2 for trap. before actually trying to mess with the shims to adjust drop, I adjusted the way I was shouldering the shotgun, albeit was incorrect since I was using the bottom edge of the stock as the point where I would shoulder the shotgun. I did adjust to this pretty good as I was able to hit 20-21 out of 25. I finally decided I should adjust it so I'm actually shouldering it properly, but now with the standard comb seems like my plane of sight is too low. I've started to looking around for a different comb but I see Benelli has a raised comb and an extra high comb. although I know it would probably be different for everyone, I was wondering which would be probably the best one to go with.

    raised comb:

On my Benelli Montefeltro Super 90, I couldn't get the comb high enough with the shims. So I added something like this, and worked perfectly. Still shoots flatter than my Beretta 682 but not having to swing 32" of barrel around for sporting clays/skeet sometimes is nice.

they didn't have any additional pictures. I'm assuming it has adhesive on the bottom and you would "fold" it over the stock comb? does that sound about right? do you happen to have a picture of yours? that seems like a good budget solution, It doesn't seem thick so I would assume probably if I end up going the comb route that would be the smaller one then.

I have read somewhere that some people will cut pipe foam in half, and stack them in order to get the correct comb height. Once they have this, they can then make a more permanent adjustment or buy the correct comb insert like those for your Benelli M2.

Might be worth a try so that you're not wasting money buying and trying different comb height.

ended up trying to make different adjustments with the drop. also picked up an easy hit front fiber optic. also swapped out the choke from improved cylinder to modified. tried out these changes before ordering a cheek riser. went out to shoot 3 rounds and these adjustments/changes seemed to work well. a slight raise in comb seems like that would help also but out of the 3 rounds I shot a 19, 18 and 20. I'm happy so far. I would say average before changes were 15-18 with 20-21 my best round.

I don't blame you for not wanting to buy both of those cheek pads. I think mine ran $110 with shipping. My gun is the Super Sport and I went with the raised comb (the middle height). It made a good difference in how the gun feels. It used to beat the crap out of my cheek, but I added the higher comb and adjusted the stock shims. Mine is used for skeet and 3 gun. It no longer beats up my cheek and I did better at skeet with it modified. When I got the SS, I liked that it had a fiber optic front sight. I don't think I have seen that sight in years. It is still there, AFAIK, but I don't look at it. I point the gun instead of aiming. Even when I shoot slugs (40 yards and under), I don't notice the front sight.

The only issue I have is that the gun shoots high when I use it for 3 gun, even with birdshot at close up steel targets. For skeet, it seems to work fine and I don't notice it.

The comb in the photo is just over half an inch high at the rear (from stock to top of rubber) and it is 5" long from the left where it meets the front of the stock to the end of the top/upper portion of the rubber. IIRC, the stock comb is flush with the stock on both ends.
