Mossberg 500/590 help

I'm sure it's been discussed numerous times but I'd like to get some info from guys that have changed barrels on their Mossberg 500. I have a 500A that was given to me new 20 years ago, so selling it to get another gun is not an option. I want to remove the 20" barrel and 7rd mag tube to make it 24" with 9rd+ capacity. Has anyone done this or anything like it?

590's don't come in 24" that I've seen. It was said that an 835 barrel will fit...anyone confirm that?

From a THR thread a couple years back,

Here is the solution to your problems, The Mossberg 835 barrels will fit in your "5-shot mag tube" 590. The barrel is "overbored" to a 10GA at the muzzle. If you have the 7 shot mag tube, then this won't work....

Mossberg makes a 24" barrel for the 835, although they don't list it for sale seperately on their web-site...

Both Havlin Sales and Corsons have 24" 590 barrels listed on their website.

I can't answer your question as I am a Remington guy but before I did anything I would check with a reutable gunsmith to be sure thyat there are no structural differences between the 500 and 590 recievers .020 can be critical.

I was able to get that 24" 590 barrel from Havlin for $50!
I tried with Corsons but he wasn't very helpful, seemed like he didn't want to sell the barrel, oh well. I also picked up a 590 8rd tube and +1 extension at good prices...I'll post a pic when it's done.
