Shot gun cleaning

So I picked up a remmy 870 not too long ago, some may remember I was having an issue with the mag tube.

Im a newb so enlighten me as to what exactly I need to clean all parts of my shotgun, and what intervals I should do it at.

Looks like that works quite well, I may have to try that.

But that's only cleaning the barrel, when I clean my shotgun, I field strip it until the receiver is empty, lightly scrub each item with some solvent, wipe them off, apply oil as needed, put it back together, function check, and I'm good to go.

yup you got it. just get the carbon buildup outa there and your all good. pump shotguns are pretty tough

You need to clean the mag tube also. When the tube gets dirty it will cause the shells to hang up and your gun will have cycleing issues. It's much more important on a semi but it will effect a pump.

Depending on how much carbon buildup is in the bore 20-30 mins.

Until they really need it, mine get two passes with a bore snake and lubed. A bronze brush and Hoppes if the bores have plastic/lead streaks starting. The auto loaders always get a good cleaning of the gas system. The less you take em completely apart, the less they get loose, especially on alloy receivers.
That's the nice apart about pumps like the 870 and most auto loaders, the trigger groups drop out with two pins for easy cleaning.

I might break down an 870 every couple of years...I still have one that has never been opened up all the way. Maybe every third session I'll run a tornado brush along with regular 12 ga brushes to help get the plastic wad fouling out of the forcing cone area. The tornado deal also helps get the lead streaks out of chokes as well.

wd-40 and whatever cocktail of oils and solvents work well for shotgun bbls, but only if the barrel is off the gun..it could get messy otherwise.
