Re-read the thread. I already stated a semi-auto kicks far less than a pump.
My statement about the Benelli semi-auto is fact. It isn't just my opinion. Look it up, it's well documented. It has to do with how the Inertia Driven operating system uses recoil. It has to use recoil to make the action work properly. It relies on recoil rather than gas (a gas operating system is what most other brands use). Gas systems typically have a softer recoil. Another reason why the M4 doesn't feel too bad is because the gun is relatively heavy (for combat durability). Weight will always help lessen felt recoil. But the relatively heavy weight of the M4 makes it a less appealing candidate for most people's wives.
Try shooting the M4 with its buttstock up against a brick or concrete wall. It won't cycle because it didn't recoil. A gas operated shotgun will cycle.
