Kel-Tec KSG Shotgun Polymer Lower Rail Breakage

Anyone know if this is still a reoccurring issue with the newer (gen-2) versions of Kel-Tec KSG's with a VFG mounted on the bottom rail?

Based upon my google skills, it seems as if the problem was with the gen-1 versions as all of the breakage posts are dated in 2012.

I just talked to my LGS about this last week (in talking about the "guy shot his hand off" thread, which they had not seen). They tell me that the lower polymer rail has been significantly beefed up. They also stated that they use VFG's on their personal guns and don't see any issue with doing so.

    YMMV

There's a company which sells a reinforcing aluminum rail which goes over the polymer rail.

I'd run that if you're planning to use a VFG.

If you use an angled fore grip, you will be better off and really have no need to worry about the rails as it doesn't put any pressure on them. If you use a vertical one, I guess go with the reinforced attachment, but pumping with a vertical grip seems unnatural. The reason it breaks the rail is because the motion isn't fluid, it kind of gives a slight upward motion. I use a reverse installed angled fore grip.

This is the VFG (see below) that is alleged to have caused this issue. According to the article, the KSG did not break/malfunction; the ProMag VFG slid off the KSG. Note the little knob in the middle of the VFG, that's what supposedly gave out. IMO, it was the fault of the gun owner who used a sub-par VFG that wasn't robust enough to handle the racking of the KSG. If you use a VFG, make sure you choose one that will be strong enough to handle the forces associated with racking the KSG, e.g., the Magpul RVG VFG (see 2nd pic below of my KSG).

Sketti- a bit cluttered for my taste, but I really like the way those colors worked out on that KSG

                KEL TEC is the problem.
