    Intro to Skeet in/near Sacramento?

Any recommendations for beginner skeet/shotgun in Sacramento area?

Have shot a little informally. Tried Skeet at Sac Valley today; was pretty bad. Not interested in league, but would like to learn to shoot shotgun better.

Have you tried asking the range where you shoot if they have regulars there who offer lessons? Most ranges have those folks around, they usually have instructors either on staff or on a free lance basis.

In the Bay Area, Los Altos offers only trap but it is the most beginner friendly. Not only do they have manual trap which lets you practice swinging the shotgun at the fixed angle flying target, I've also noticed that their range officers will usually give friendly pointers to those who are struggling. One lady RO by the name Lisa there gives instructions on shotgun and is usually good with helping folks shooting shotguns.

I'm thinking trap is more forgiving and the shooter has a longer time to react and a better chance to make hits.

Both trap and skeet are fun, sociable events. Then again this can be said of nearly every firearm discipline .

I've been shooting for 45 years, but mostly rifle/pistol. Just a little shotgun. Would like to improve. I'm in Shingle Springs east of Sacramento.

              Will look at the links.

Where in Lincoln? I have shot there many times over the years at the rifle/pistol range, but never shotgun.

Coon creek in Lincoln. Off of west wise blvd. trap, skeet and sporting clays. They have a couple of people who post instruction flyers. Will Bruce is one of those people. He is an accomplished shooter and an NSCA instructor.

Coon creek also has a guy who shoots out there who is an Olympic skeet instructor. His name is B.J. And I think his last name is sullivan. You can find him online. I have shot with him and he is very cool.

If you want to shoot trap, you can also shoot at El Dorado gun club which is pretty close to you.

My son shot in the 4H program at El Dorado. I helped them out a few times with my tractor a few years back. Never heard of trap/skeet instruction there. Will check. Lincoln sounds interesting too though...

Depending upon your location and willingness to drive a bit....Alta Mesa Gun Club in Wilton is a very nice place to shoot trap. 10 cents a bird...a punch card for non members runs $10. Cheapest in town for non membership ranges. They shoot Monday's, Thursday's and Friday's for non members. They start at 1700 and generally go to around 2100ish.

10 cents a bird??!? Wish a range in the bay area has that kind of price for trap.

The only one that comes close is Sunnyvale Gun & Rod but you need to be a member to get the $2.50 a round (10 cents a bird) price. And they're not taking in members at the moment.

Alta Mesa is actually twenty cents per bird (trap only) for non members. That's still a good price, and the people there are great. It's in Wilton which is probably about 45 minutes from Shingle Springs. Come on out Monday, Thursday or Friday evenings.

I stand corrected. Had to go out and actually look at one of my punch/shoot tickets lol. You're right though, still a hell of a deal.
