$.01 shipping on Cabelas shot shells

Just an FYI, Cabelas is offering 1 cent shipping on Cabela's branded products, and that included shot shells. The Cabela's brand is Herters. They also have other types of ammo under that brand name (eg 9mm, .223, etc) so you can probably get all sorts of stuff. Code is 84PENNY.

I picked up 2 cases of 16g #8 and 2 cases of 12g #7.5. Prices are pretty good too ($65 for a case of 12g, so $6.50/box, and $70 for a case of 16g). Perfect for sporting clays, general practice, and maybe even some quail.

I wish I could get some individual boxes of #6 16g since it would take a lot of hunting to go through an entire case, but I'm just glad to get some 16g ammo at a reasonable price to take to the range.

FYI-Gander Mountain always has free shipping over $50 and several choices between $6 and $7 bucks.

Just as a word of warning. I have purchased 2 different types of Herter's ammo and never been happy with either of them. The Herter's 12 ga 8 shot I purchased would not cycle in my 870 to save my life. Every other ammo cycles fine, just not the Herters. My uneducated guess is that it has to do with their hulls.

I have also purchased their 30-06 rounds which never flew right. I had they range owner of Wes Thompson's Piru Gun Range try a couple and he said they were all over the place. There is video of this guy hitting a 1,000 yard shot with an open sight 30-06 so it is definitely not shooter error.

That is the tricky part, yes, shipping is "free" for orders over $50, but for each case of shot shells ordered, there's a "freight charge" of $5. So "free" isn't really "free" after all for Gander Mountain. Still, with the Federal Top Gun rebate going on, the price isn't bad.

I've tried a case of the Herter's "Select Field Dove and Quail Shotshells", which are loaded wit 1oz #7.5 shots at 1250fps. These seems to cycle just fine in both my Benelli Supersport and my wife's Benelli M2 Field Compact.

The one complain I do have about these shells is the cardboard box they use for the individual boxes. They are VERY poorly made and more than once, it broke when I was trying to stuff them into the pocket of my shooting vest (I like to stuff the entire box in to easily track the number of shots I've done at each station as each box keeps 5 rounds in a row) and I had pick up shells on the ground and dust them off to prevent sand and grit getting into my barrel. Not the best thing to do when people are waiting for you to start a round of trap!
