Two weekends in a row and I end it with shotgun shoulder. This last trap shoot was pretty harsh and now i'm in the market for a shoulder pad. Anyone have recommendations on a good recoil pad? I think I will be purchasing it from Cheaperthandirt.com and was looking at the limbsaver.

Forget recoil pads.....stick to old fashion metal butt plates. j/k
buttstock + in the pocket = no more shotgun shoulder"1911 mag, twinkie, twinkie, cupcake, primary weapon mag"

If you're just shooting trap you should be shooting some pretty light loads. Go with an ounce at 1100-1200fps.
Don't buy heavy field loads.
Seating the gun properly + target loads = no recoilPlease read the Calguns Wiki
Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.

I personally don't own a shotgun yet and have been trying out various kinds to find the right fit...some hit a little harder than others and have less padding. So I figured I would just get a shoulder pad until I find a shotgun I like and pick one up for myself.Comment

Not a shotgun, but I've fired Ruger level loads in my Marlin Guide Gun 45/70 with a Limbsaver pad. Every rifle I will ever own will have one. It it awesome.Comment

The Limbsaver is by far my favorite recoil pad. My friend and I put one on every rifle we took out last time we shot and put several hundred rounds of slugs, 3 1/2" buckshot, Mosins, Mausers, and 308s and were able to shoot for hours before quitting.Comment

It sounds like the first thing to do is find someone to teach you how to properly shoulder your shotgun. Also, make sure that it fits you right. If you are getting bruised from shooting less than 500 rounds of 12g per day, more than likely, the gun doesn't fit you properly and/or you are not shouldering it properly. When all else fails, first, get a strap on recoil pad for your shoulder. That way, you will have it and be able to use it to shoot any gun. Then, get a recoil pad custom fitted to your stock.NRA Certified Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun and Metallic Cartridge Reloading Instructor

This fits on my Mossberg 500, Mauser M48, and Mosin-Nagant m44. Best 20 $ I have ever spent.
