    20" 870 Barrel?

I've been looking around and have found a couple. There's one from CDNN for 80$ but appears to be a Chinese import, http://www.cdnnsports.com/870-12-20-...l#.U9CzKfldUXw
Or the factory Remington with rifle sights from CTD, http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/product/94622
What constitutes a "deer barrel" and would it be suitable for HD? I prefer a bead sight but I'm not sure about the Target Sports one, haven't found too many reviews. Are there any other options? Seems like 18.5" gets a lot of love in the 870 world, but I want a +3 extension to look like it belongs on the gun!

I would stay away from rifle sights (unless that's what you're into) as well as knock-off imitations.... Have you checked the Remington site to see if they have the exact barrel configuration you're looking for? Often Remington has the same price (or even lower) than the internet sites we all visit.

i own a smooth bore IC 1965 Wingmaster 'Brushmaster' w/original OEM 20" barrel w/factory rifle sights. at the time of it's manufacture it was Remington's offering of a hunting shotgun that could also serve as a police shotgun and then some. unlike a dedicated deer gun with rifled barrel, the Brushmaster smooth bore was made to be more eclectic in it's willingness to do more than one thing well. it shot nicer, tighter groups with buckshot than the rifled barrel could.

the Brushmaster is not all that easy to find and has proven to be a desirable Wingmaster. i've seen the old 20" barrels on ebay and would suggest a check on Gunbroker for interested parties. the 20" barrels normally came with rifle sights. the Brushmaster was a special order Wingmaster and it's cost was reflected by this. i have a corresponding time-period price guide that is interesting to me. the quality of these older Wingmasters was/is superb.

i have provided a few links of possible interest to some regarding shotgun barrels and ammo (The Box 'O Truth #46) (The Box 'O Truth #43):

I have had a few folks ask the question: "I know sabot slugs are designed to be used with rifled shotgun barrels, but can they be used effectively with a smooth bore barrel?" That is the question we will try to answer today. First a little terminology education. A solid, single projectile...

I had a friend ask me, "O_P, could you shoot buckshot through a rifled barrel and a cylinder bore barrel and post the differences on your website?" Well, as is sometimes the case, I do not presently own a shotgun with both a cylinder bore barrel and a rifled slug barrel. But I started looking...

The beauty of the standard (OG) 870, is that one can personalize & have many different scatter guns all in one package!

I have and it doesn't look like they have just the regular bead sight, do you have experience with the rifle sights? Thanks

Deer barrel is simply a 20" Rifle sight barrel with the Express Matte finish. That is a good price on cheaper then dirt as that barrel is in retail packaging and retails for around $160 and their cost is around $120. They must be comfortable making $5 on a barrel. I saw them selling Speedfeed stocks for less then my cost and I contacted my Rep and he said they were seconds with only minor cosmetic differences but I do not know if Remington lets anything like that leave the factory. I doubt they would.

+1 For the 20" smooth bore with front rifle sight. Awesome general purpose barrel. It has earned a permanent spot on my 870 that goes into the field.

I see no reason why it wouldn't also be fine for a defensive shot gun barrel.
