Just a little something I threw together 870 wingmaster conversion

So, not too much to see here, but it seem like it is going to be a real nice HD/Slug gun for what I paid for it.

I bought a Winchester Wingmaster Magnum 870 with a 28" full choke barrel in pretty good overall shape for $300

    Installed
    18" slug barrel ($95)
MOE SGA stock and forend ($60 from JSE surplus on sale)
Remington +2 magazine extension ($60) (built to hold high capacity clips that shoot 60 magazine clips in a second!)
Trijicon/Scattergun Technologies ghost ring sights ($130)
Mesa Tactical Saddle Ring Picatinny rail/6rd sidesaddle ($125)
I had a Burris Fastfire III ($200)with a American Defense QD mount (about $60) without a home so I threw it on here for now. Still undecided if it will stay.
A nice feature is the Ghost ring is actually usable through the underside of the RDS. Wasn't expecting that!
I had to buy a tap in the right size to mount the sights, but otherwise it was a quick conversion.

End of it all, I guess I put about $1000 total by my math. It was supposed to be a cheap conversion. Such is life ...

I like it so far. taking it to sight in today. I imagine it will shoot great!

It's not my style, but if you like it then that's all that matters. Hopefully it ran well for you.

How difficult was it to install the ghost rings?

            Thanks!

not bad, to mount the rear sight, people say to use a drill press and a jig. I don't find it necessary, and more to the point, I don't have a jig for this setup. So instead I just took my time setting up the surface to be drilled level (it is easy to line up parallel with the receiver as it has lines running down the top of it). Then once you figure out where it is to go, center punch the center of the hole you want to drill, then drill plumb to the depth you need.
I have a drill press, just didn't bother with it as I have drilled holes before and this is a pretty simple operation as far as mounting goes.
                As far as tips,
I found it easier to drill the first hole, tap the first hole, mount the sight, and then start the drill through the rear hole in the sight. Then I take off the sight, tap the rear hole and mount it.
                Easy peasy.

The front sight is just epoxied on over the top of the original sight. I had the simple bead, so I put a more substantial bolt on to give the epoxy more purchase. then I filled the hollow of the front sight with the supplied 3M epoxy and placed it on my marks (parallel and centered on the top of barrel, about 1/4" back from the muzzle).
Clamp it on, clean the excess that squishes out with solvent. They say use MEK. I used Remington Action cleaner and it worked fine.
Let it sit for 24 hours and viola, it is done.

All in all a jr man card qualifying event at most.

I have a HD shotgun already, and carry it often when out back at my place up north for a camp gun.
Always wanted a 870 so when I saw a older 80s model in good (not excellent) shape it seemed the perfect candidate for this little conversion.

Not real big on the Magpul stuff, but it is light, and I have a fantastic cheek weld and LOP with this stock, the shorter forend allows for the 6 shell sidesaddle to work, and I got it on a screaming deal of about $60 for the both as I said earlier.

The sights are great! the tritium is just enough, but not too bright to obscure a target.
Further, and just out of luck, more than design, the iron sights are completely functional even with the Fastfire on the shotgun. I have a QD ADM mount the Fastfire rides, on, but it is nice to know the irons work even with the sight mounted.

LOL, yes, i know it is a remington, just messin' a bit. haha!
