I have a 870 Tactical. I added it to my 870 collection because a price that I couldn't resist. I think the price tag of yours is not bad.

The things that I like about mine is its single full 6+1 magazine tube (*no magazine tube extension*), which at least psychologically () it feels smoother to feed a full tube of shells.

Its finish seems different than my good 'ol Big 5 Special 870 Express... the finish feels smoother, better wear resistance, and better rust resistance.

I have put a few hundreds of mix shells in mine, and it worked flawlessly.

All in all, I like it.

I ve been looking at mossberg 500s lately so the $360 for the 870 tactical seemed like a really good deal, especially compared to the big 5 mossberg 500 for $479? So you re saying its an ok deal? Should I jump on it?

        Which tactical model?

If it has the bead sight, it's not a great deal. If it has the xs ghost ring sights w/rail, that is a great deal. Just a note, if it's the model with the straight 6rd tube (no screw-on mag extension), you will not be able to interchange most aftermarket or Remington factory 870 barrels. They are designed for the 4rd magazine tube.

I am personally opposed to buying an 870 (or post-freedom group) Remington product of any variety and would recommend a Mossberg 590a1 (dual extractors, retracting shell lifter, lighter alloy receiver, 8+1 capacity with 20'' barrel), but it's your decision.

        Just my 2 cents.

2nd that!! Just keep in mind that you're not going to be changing barrels. Love mine (solid no-frills dedicated HD gun)!!

                This!!!

Many still don't realize that the one piece tube limits them to the stock configuration. Some don't care, but many purchase the new 6 shot 870's thinking that they can swap barrels later - Not the case. If one ever invisions using their 870 for anything but HD, make sure you get the standard/original 870.
