You can put a mag extension on the 930 without any problems. You can't put a mag extension on the M4 without triggering 922r. So if you plan on adding capacity, be warned.

So that's why they have that stupid lookin' thing at the end of the mag tube!
I wondered why they did that and, then sell extensions to enable a 7 round capacity.

Thanks again for all the replies. Excuse my ignorance about the M4. Now I understand what the deal is with why they are sold with the 5 round capacity.

I have the 930 SPX and the only issue I have had with it is FTE with
875fps bird shot. That's about the lightest factory load you can buy. I suspect no semi-auto will cycle those rounds.

my 930 would not cycle 1150fps shots. minimum is 1200fps.
and it needs cleans after ~500 rounds. or it will start to FTF.

You might want to clean it more often.
Mine shoots 1150fps Fiocchi slugs all day.
Jerry Miculek has a great video on cleaning the 930.

I just knocked on wood for you

Honestly, though - I've mentioned 922r to a number of friends of mine who you'd think would know all about it, and they either chuckle or they look at me with a puzzled expression.

That's a pretty complex and byzantine rule, and while I sure would hate to have to argue about how I've replaced the right number of parts to comply with 922r to someone who isn't an expert, I doubt it will come up until it's time to sell a gun through a FFL who is a real stickler.

That's not the real problem. If your weapons get checked by an officer while shooting on public land, or you get pulled over for a traffic violation, things can go downhill quickly. If you think that can't happen, you haven't been on this website long enough. If the police are looking for things to pop you on, you're going down.

It can be something as simple as having the shotgun leaning in a corner of the room when the fire department has to break down your door to put out a fire when you're at work. The police show up to secure the shotgun - oops.

the benelli is a higher quality, purpose built weapon

the 930 is more crude and not as well designed, even in the SPX guise.

that said, i have the 18.5/26" barrel combo and it has about 5000 rounds downstream. i started to have some feeding issues after 2 years and 1000 rounds without cleaning.

I'm not a fan of the SPX .... the stock is way too low for the ghost rings and it's a waste of time to shoot with such a high chin weld.

The m4 was designer to be flawless for the military, flawless what I wanted to have to protect my family when/if needed!
I once pondered over the debate of 9mm vs. .40, then I was introduced to .38 super and 10mm and forgot all about it.

Long time benelli m2 owner here. However, I recently traded it for a dan wesson 1911 cbob . What I will say though is that benelli's are easily some of the best autoloaders out there. Personally, I don't think the m4 is worth the extra $$ over an m2 or m1 super 90. They are all good guns. Very smooth action, great triggers, and extremely light guns. I don't know too much about the mossberg but at that price point I'd rather have an 11-87 police.

I took a defensive shotgun class with my 930.Now I don't know if it was me or the gun but it could go thru shells faster than the M4 and never had on hiccup during 200 rounds of mixed ammo.I love it!!!

From your username, and the fact that you already own a Mossberg 590A1, I think you've already convinced yourself that the Benelli M4 is the shotgun you really want. Otherwise, your username will be "Weatherby_Junkie" and your existing shotgun will be a Mossberg 500.

Let's face it, the Benelli M4 has a fearsome reputation that other shotguns can only dream of. It is a purpose built war fighting machine that makes no pretense to being a "sporting arm". The shotgun is menacing looking with a brutish, lethal look to it. Pull it out at the range and even people with no experience with shotguns can instantly tell it is designed for one purpose only: combat.

There you have it, cost be damn, go buy yourself a Benelli M4.

As much as I love my 930 I can't recommend a SPX or any of the tactical 930's. I run a combo and while in he market I gave a look to the BlackWater JK and SPX for a good while. Then saw the combos and noticed they seem to have smoother parts and a lot better QC as a lot.

So of he 2, M2 or M4. Unless you go combo and buy a ext tube and ghost sights. At the very least JM pro. The JM still seem hit or miss off the shelf but tend to still have better QC standards than the SPX/BlackWater and what ever the other tactical one is. I feel they focus on slapping the tactical aftermarket stuff on and call it good where the pro is no frills and only focus on just the gun really.

                              YMMV. FWIW.

love my 930.. took it to the desert for some reliability checks. and ran the walmart federal box with no problems.. however i did rip a few bottoms of shells on the winchesters.. and i gave it the sprinkle some dry dirt in the action, turned a bunch of grit into sand.. as of lube its nothing $ ill switch from marine jetski oil to 2$ tubes of grease in walmart.. it originally started as a spx and is now wearing a 24 inch vent rib with a extra extra full turkey choke. im so happy with it that im actually looking to buy another one but with a 18" just for home defense. like others said before... i rather have two 930s than one m4.
