    Ksg 12 for HD Gun?

I just finally took out my ksg... It's an awesome little fun gun..... But sadly and disappointingly it does have a lot of the problems many reviews complain of...it just destroys your wrists... many FTFs, misfires, and it's stiff on the shoulder definitely... But it's so compact it seems like if you could get it to work it would be an amazing HD gun?

What are your opinions on the KSG? Anyone use it as their HD Gun? Maybe I just need more practice with it?

If you have reliability issues with it, why would you trust it in a life or death situation?

In my opinion, your home defense firearm should be one that you have most confidence in and shoot the best with. If the KSG isn't the one shotgun you can count on to function and you don't practice with it much, then I think it should be delegated to the role of a range toy; something you can have fun with, but when the SHTF happens, grab a Benelli.

Uh no... Jamomatic shotty protecting your life?? Eff no!!! Get that Mossberg or Remington. Hell, even a Maverick 88 I'd choose over that KSG.

Most of the Kel Tec hate comes from people who have never actually shot or held one.

Some KSGs did have some teething problems.

If you buy one, follow the 'fluff and buff' instructions online, then go put about 100 rounds through it. If it works well, go ahead and use it for defense.

Keep in mind it is a LIGHT shotgun, and the recoil axis is inline with the buttstock so it will kick hard, harder than an 870/590 which has a drop to the stock (but more muzzle rise).

You've answered your question, see the bold print. I've fired one (well, tried to fire it, it would not function) and wouldn't trust it with my life.
I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!

                I don't hate all Kel Tecs...just the ones that don't work...like the OP's.

The thing has many FTFs and misfires according to you, I don't even understand how using it for HD could even be a consideration. Failures to feed and failures to eject might be due to you shortstroking it and that could be overcome with practice I guess(although why you'd want to practice using a gun that can be short stroked so easily I don't know. I'd rather train to be able to operate any shotgun), but misfires too? I'd have sent that back to kel-tec already.

I used to be really interested in getting one but after watching a video review and seeing how the hulls get ejected on top of your wrist, I kind of lost interest. The availability and the price gouging going on also lessened my interest.

What do you expect from Keltech. Their reputation precedes them.

I love my UTS-15, have had several hundred rounds through it with no problems, but would never trust it over the Mossberg 500 for HD. Mostly because my GF isn't proficient with it and I'd want to use something either of us could pick up/ hand off if needed and still have confidence in their ability with it.

Never had problems with my KSG. Have a little cheapo red dot on there as well, no problems with that either. Only like 300 rounds through it, but it's been so far so good. I agree with bigbearbear, use whatever you're comfortable with

As already mentioned you answered your own question. If it jams, FTF, or encounters any other hiccups it should not be your go to HD weapon.

To bad not avail in 20G!

Take a look at that new triple barrel shotgun

Of course i prefer a scorpion mp for home defence. .32ACP out of 10 1/2 inch barrel is perfect.
