    Remington 870 Taken by mistake

I was at Chabot gun club shooting skeet on Monday June 30th at about 1PM. There were 3 Remington 870s there and someone took my 870 and left theirs at the range. From the sign in sheet the persons name is Mark H. If anyone knows this guy. Please have him call the Chabot Gun Club and have him drop off my shotgun. His shotgun is in the safe there.

I wonder how long it will take Mark H to figure out he picked up the wrong gun.

I also wonder if he will be able to stand the humiliation of bringing the gun back and saying "You know, I think I made a mistake."
"Self defense is not a fashion show. A defensive handgun is not a little black dress, or a purse."
Remember, the overwhelming majority of anti-gun thinkers are not stupid enough to be "afraid of guns." They are afraid of stupid/immature/crazy psycho people with guns.
And as always, being friendly, courteous, and respectful is the easiest way to bend people to your will.

Did he pay with a credit or debit card and did they check for that name on a charge?

Being you are in CA where the law gets real stupid about firearms. I would do a police report. He has yours and you don't know if it was an accident, what if his malfunctioned and he simply decided to trade up? I know it is a long shot but I would worry about a stranger having a weapon that can be traced back to me. They will find the guy and make sure the weapons are back with the right owner if it was a mistake. Any time a firearm is out of your control and you don't where it is or who may have it you need to CYA. Also what if he doesn't even know it is not his and sells it to someone?

Sure, it was most likely and accident and he will be embarrassed but happy to correct the mistake. But man, I would do more then post it in a forum. Maybe you already have.

If you're going to a gun fight, take a shotgun. If you can't take a shotgun, don't go.

Sounds like some good advice right here... Call the cops and have them help you sort it out. I'm sure a runaway gun will get their asses moving :P

                    Agree.

Very likely it was just a beautiful mistake... However, do contact the police, even just to file for the record.

Hope all will be sorted out soon.

                    Happy skeet shooting,

That is good advice. What if a year from now, you find the gun was used in a murder?

A month ago two plain-clothes detectives came to my house inquiring about an old shotgun I sold back in '08 to a LGS that was used in a suicide a few cities away. Luckily I hung onto the bill of sale so they didn't stick around long or come back to bug me again. So, if someone uses it for something bad, you WILL be questioned. Always cover your ***! Better safe than sorry!

just to play devils advocate...and because our state is stupid, if the cops get involved and find the shotgun will they make OP re-dros and register his shotgun to get it back?
                          I don't own any guns...they're dangerous.

Most likely would treat it as a theft recovery and make the OP wait for the case to be totally concluded (months?) and then have him go through the LEGR paperwork to get it back. If it hasn't been "accidentily" destroyed.
