    HI,

    thanks

I've read about people shooting trap with it, but not sure about skeet. I am planning to take mine out soon to shot trap with it.

My main issue is most private trap and skeet ranges around me require a 24"+ barrel shotgun. However, I found out my local County operated trap range only requires the shotgun be legal, so a coach gun should be OK. I'll report back if I find out otherwise.

Trap and skeet are totally different games. Trap is for the most part targets going away at different angles. Skeet is for the most part crossing targets at close distances. Goggle each for the specifics of how each is done. A simple answer is, yes you can use just about any open bore shotgun for an "informal" round of skeet, so the gun in question will work just fine. Trap requires a much tighter choke and a longer barrel, so the gun in question may be a bit of a handicap. The ideal skeet gun has a 26 inch barrel and a “skeet” choke. The typical trap gun has a 28-30 inch barrel and a tighter choke, usually improved modified to full, depending on the handicap yardage.

Now having said all of that, I have seen many folks shooting both skeet and trap with out of the box field guns and HD shotguns. While not ideal, both will work fine for a fun day on the range.

The following is a cut and paste explaining the basic difference.

Skeet- A skeet shooting field has two “houses,” one high, one low, that sit to the right and left of the shooters’ eight stations from which the call is made for the clay “birds” to be released. The targets emerge from the houses at a high rate of speed, never more than 35 yards away. As the bright red clay discs cross in an arc before the shooter aims the shotgun and fires, hoping to break the targets.

Trap - Shooters fire from five stations in straight-away fashion. A shooter prepares by bringing the gun to the shoulder and shouting “pull.” A target is released from a hidden center location. The clay “bird” flies at 76 feet a second and the trap shooter squeezes the trigger from a 16-yard station but can also shoot from 27 yards and any distance in between

Yes.....if the range allows short barrels.

I'll put it this way, can you play basketball in hunting boots..yes...was it possible to make a better choice...yes

for an all around clay game shotgun go with :

a shotgun that you have shot and like
a shotgun that holds two or standard 4+1 shells
a shotgun with field or sporting stocks
a shotgun with 26 or longer barrels with interchangable chokes and only a bead for sights

go shoot, have fun and always be safe
