    It's a shotgun...

Get the unbunrt powder out of it, and give it a coat of oil
    Looking for a 3" Magnum 870 $200-$250ish

+1 what he said. I haven't cleaned my Mossberg yet it's still going strong with about 2000rds since the last cleaning.
Bounce a ball in Football that's a fumble. Baseball, no bouncing at all. Bounce a ball in Hockey, well that's a mandatory drug test right there...

The most cost effective method I've found, is to buy those Painter's Rags from big box stores like Home Depot and Lowes. They sell them by the pound. I cut them into strips and wrap them around my bore brush, making a tight fit in the bore. Spray the barrels down with WD-40 or brake cleaner and then ram the bore brush with rags wrapped around it through the barrel and it'll push out just about everything. I do a final pass with a rag that has Froglube on it.

The barrels of my shotguns are chromed lined and this works wonderfully. I've read about people using 0000 steel wool wrapped around a wooden dowel with good effect as well, might be worth a try.
Dude that is excellent advice for the Painters rags. Those big shotgun patches are just kind of a rip off.

Save your money for ammo and don't buy none of that mess. Take a 5/8 or 1/2" hard wood dowel rod that you can get from Home Depot and get a bag of 00 steel wool. Stretch a pad of steel wool over the rod and stretch it down the rod and tape it off at the bottom. Like a big Q-tip. If your barrel is really fouled you can put the rod in your drill and run it dry through the barrel. It will look like it is chrome lined after a couple passes. After shooting the gun you can simply run the rod through it by hand and get the same effect. You can see these in the red link "install and cleaning" on my web site www.aiptactical.com

I have been cleaning smooth bore shotgun barrels like this for 40 years. Sure saved a lot of money by not buying all that high priced gun cleaning mess. It is a smooth bore barrel and there is no rifling to get fouled up so those chemicals are a waste of money.

If you're going to a gun fight, take a shotgun. If you can't take a shotgun, don't go.
