Here is one for sale that appears by your description to be a similar gun. Might give you some direction on pricing. I have always wanted a SxS shotgun for the hell of it. Someday. Check www.gunpartscorp.com for a replacement stock.

If its really beat down you can part it out and still get like $250 for it.
Or I can give you directions to a trash can and you could just throw it away

If the one on Armslist is in significantly better condition, and given that that is an asking price. I would figure your friends is worth a 1/3 to 1/2 of the Armslist price. Possibly less. Condition is everything when it comes to the value of a gun. It appears that the Armslist gun at least gives you an idea of what it is not worth. Good luck.

Here are the photos of the OP's shotgun gun.

Personally, until I did my research on availability of parts and what the costs of those parts would be, I would not be interested in buying it at any price. Looking at the photos, its hard to tell if it might not be a Damascus barrel, if it is its, in good condition only a Black powder shooter. If built in 1905 I would think its not Damascus, but it kind of looks like it in the photos. I think you need to determine what it will cost to bring it up to an acceptable level of condition for your purpose. Does it lock closed tight if not its probably not worth the effort to bring back, given that it is not a high end shotgun. Fun project if economically feasible otherwise.
