OEM stock works fine. Stout enough to smack someone upside the head (repeatedly) when they're not worth a shell

Agree, OP shoulda also give the Mesa hydraulic buffer a try, with his Limbsaver they really do magic.

I'm in SF proper, but Jackson Arms in South City is shotgun-friendly and an easy drive.

Gotcha! Yeah, I'll definitely take you up on that offer. Just have to figure out when would be a good time. Thank you, I really appreciate it!

Not crazy about pistol grips on shotguns. But I do understand why people like them. As far as recoil I really can't feel the difference, but perhaps I need to shoot both types more.
Bottom line for me is I don't like having too much stuff protruding from my shotgun plus I don't find it aesthetically pleasing.
For me part of the beauty of the shotgun platform is simplicity, straight and to the point.

The benefit of these stocks is they assist in natural point shooting. If you hold your hand like you were gripping a conventional stock you will notice your wrist is cocked and your trigger finger is pointing downward at a 45 degree angle. If you then hold your hand like you were gripping a pistol grip stock you will notice your wrist is straight with your forearm and your trigger finger is level with your wrist. Since point shooting is what you will be doing at HD distances this type of stock, in my humble opinion is the best on an HD shotgun as it lends itself to natural point shooting.

However, the biggest benefit of these stocks is in weapon retention. Any LE on this forum was trained to take a long gun with a conventional stock from you in a nano second. It is a very simple technique that even a dumb Jarhead like me can do extremely effectively. You have nothing to hold on to and the break point is your thumb which is over the top of the stock.

With a Speedfeed IV or M4 type stock you are gripping the pistol grip and there is no break point. It becomes force against force when your weapon is grabbed. This is no guaranty that your weapon will not be taken but gives you a better chance of retaining it. Anyone here who thinks they can not have a weapon taken from them is guilty of foolish thinking. So anything that increases my odds of winning in a close quarters fight is what I should use or at least give careful consideration to.

There are plenty of fine stocks out there to choose from but I see little to make me change from the opinion that the Speedfeed IV-S with an R3 or limbsaver pad is the best fighting stock out there.
I do like the Speedfeed or others with full shoulder stock. I dislike the collapsable AR type. Uncomfortable and snag city. IMHO a big advantage of the pistol grip stock on a combat shotgun is the ability to control with one hand. You may well need the other hand momentarily for a variety of tasks (like open/close door, dial 911, baricade, etc.).

Do note that the Mossberg safety position, while great for bird hunting, isn't kind to pistol grip style stocks.

A shotgun with ONLY a pistol grip is one I don't like.

A shotgun with a pistol grip AND a shoulder stock is OK.

A shotgun with a simple, traditionally shaped shoulder stock is the one I like best.
