    FNH SLP quality issue

Figured I'd share; bought a new SLP, out of the box would not cycle any ammo (including 00 buck). Contacted FNH, and they said I could mail it in (seems like good customer service). Rather than messing with postal service, shipping cost etc, I took it to a local gunsmith. Seems the gas ports were never drilled. Little disappointed in QA. Anyone else have this experience?

I had an SLP and that thing was a beast. Chewed up everything I put it in it. Never had an issue or a misfire. I'd take it back to the place where you purchased it and have them send it in for free. FN should pay the round trip freight.

Gas ports not drilled? That is .. amazingly bad.
So it doesn't cycle anything? There is a problem with the newer SLP models cycling the cheap Walmart shot shell due to FN's 'hybrid' piston. The older light piston worked fine as does the Browning clays piston.

Never a problem with my SLP. It's 6-7 years old. Hope you get it fixed.

Gas ports were never drilled? Maybe, or you got taken by your local smith.
Who will ever know? Best thing for the SLP, make sure you clean in, have the light piston installed, leave it cocked (bolt back, chamber open) for a few days then run a few hundred rounds of cheap high brass Estate stuff.

I haven't picked it up yet, but gunsmith that he drilled the ports, now it shoots everything from Light birdshot to 00. FNH said they would take a look at the gun, but they would not cover shipping. I bought the gun from a Texas dealer, so taking it back is not an option.

With no gas ports, the gas system isn't going to work at all. It's a single-shot.

Obviously you have to pay your gunsmith. I would contact FNH and the dealer again and send them a copy of the gunsmiths bill. See if they will do anything for you. If they say that you voided the warranty, post it on every internet site there is.

However I would have sent it back to the seller for warranty repair.

I have an FN SLP MK I that I have several thousand rounds through and it still won't cycle #7.5, 8, or 9. I have to shoot #6 or lower if I want it to cycle using birdshot.

I think I need to install a SureCycle recoil system and an SRM sealed piston.
