    Filthy dirty new Mossy

Brought home my first shotgun yesterday, a Mossberg 500 Combo (yay!).

Out of the box it was quite oily. I disassembled it, gave it a good wiping, and reassembled. But I didn't use any solvent. I just wiped until it was no longer making my patches black and grey. It still retained a very slight oiled feel.

Question: was this enough? Or should I go back in there with gun cleaner, then a light re-oiling? Or can I just go out and shoot now?

Wipe off the excess, re-apply lubricant where necessary, and shoot.

Having a gun be oiled(sometimes overly so) out of the box is a good thing.

You could have shot it out of the box(I personally don't shoot guns straight out of the box, but I know people that have done so with 500's and it hasn't been an issue) as I'd rather take it apart first and get familiar with what I'm dealing with(as well as making sure there's no packing grease or anything in an unnecessary spot).

I rarely clean or lube my mossberg, I wouldn't worry about it. Just shoot it and if the action is too rough throw some oil in there and call or a day
