    New Vepr fun

    First test fire.....

The very first 5 surprised me. I had installed the Molot brake and was expecting 5 powder puff recoils, the gun walked me back. The second 10 I was ready but the gun still pushed me back vertical with each shot. The next and last 10 I was really ready and leaned into it. The last 10 ran good except I had hooked my thumb over the top and it was resting on the gas tube and started burning my thumb. Great gun and ran like a dream without cleaning or anything. Brand new shotgun!

Interesting shotgun, seems like they're pretty popular.

I'm not an expert shotgun shooter but I think you're holding the shotgun too tightly and is too stiff. Seems like you're trying to shoot it like its a full-auto AK-47 assault rifle which is what the shotgun design is based on. This is probably why the shotgun rocks you pretty hard.

The way I do it is I get a good cheek weld, then let the stock rest on my shoulder but I don't put heavy pressure on it, just enough to keep it from slipping. I also bend both my legs slightly so I don't stiffen up, allowing the recoil impulse to ride down and my legs become shock absorbers. It is very similar to a boxer's stance.

You might want to give it a try next time you take out that shotgun. Adopt a boxer's stance, mount the gun and shoot. See if it works better.

What kind of ammo were you shooting?

And leaning into it helps me a lot as I'm not a big dude... just average. Handle the gun - don't let it handle you!
