    Mossberg 500 ammo test results

I took out the mossberg 500 on Saturday , this is my HD weapon 20" barrel Ar style collapsible stock .

15 yards 00 Buck Shot hit at point of aim.
15 yards #7 bird shot sprayed all over point of aim.
15 yards 1oz rifled slugs hit 10 to 12 inches low of point of aim.

Question is why are slugs hitting target so low ? Slugs are Fiocchi brand .

    Wild guess here:
I am thinking the shot has a flatter trajectory than the slugs at a distance of 15 yards.
The slugs are very heavy, campared to #7 birdshot. They drop a lot faster than the shot.
Again, this is just a guess.

How fast are the slugs compared to the birdshot? Barrel dwell has an effect. If the slugs are faster they exit the barrel quicker and the recoil does not lift the muzzle as much so a faster velocity projectile prints lower on target.

Do you have a front bead sight? I believe this is sighted around ~100yards for slugs. Try shooting slugs at 50yards and you should be close to point of aim.

10-12 inches low at 15 yards? Sure you're not flinching or adjusting your grip as you pull the trigger? I put some 1oz slugs through my 500 a few weeks ago. The recoil was pretty brutal, but it was fairly easy to get them on target around point of aim after adjusting to the kick.

What kind of sights do you have on your shotgun? Ghost ring, bead or something else?

I shot some B&P Low recoil slugs through my FN with LM choke. 50 yards POA was POI. At 100 yards it POI was 8" low. First time I shot the B&P's. I usually shoot Win .Ranger Low recoil. But the B&P's performed very good, and so much cheaper

I have ghost ring rear sight large front blade sight .
                  FIOCCHI 2-3/4 1 once low recoil 1560 fps .
They kick about as hard as the 00 buck . slugs all fired consistently 10" - 12" low at 15 yrds .

I haven't had much luck with Italian made slugs.

You know your not supposed to throw the slugs by hand!

I put FIOCCHI 1oz slugs at point of aim at 25 yds. with a 590A1 20".
