I have an 870 pump ... used to be a hunting gun ... but when I moved to the city, figured I needed a solution for all the crack heads wondering around here ... so I hacked the barrel to 18.5 inches and took the stock off ... replaced it with a rubber pistol grip ... my buddy was over the other day to go to the range and shoot our .45's (he is a sherriff deputy) and he saw my gun ... he told me it is a felony in CA to posess this because of the pistol grip... true or false ? Please educate me.

False. Since it's a pump, do what you want as long as the barrel is over 18".

(B) A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon, thumbhole stock, or vertical handgrip.
(7) A semiautomatic shotgun that has the ability to accept a detachable magazine.
(8) Any shotgun with a revolving cylinder.

false, as mentioned above. An 870 with an 18" barrel and a pistol grip is over the 26" minumum length that would otherwise make it an SBS.Jack
