    Need your opinion please

If you have to choose one, which one?
Saiga 12 or Mossberg 930 SPX?
I'm really thinking about getting the Saiga but I also like the way the Mossberg SPX performes too. How hard is it to get magazine for the Saiga?

Vepr 12. My vote. Classic and Atlantic had them on sale for $799 not too long ago.

What are you planning on useing the shotgun for? Range plinker, HD, 3-gun, mall ninja pictures, etc?

Personally I think a magazine (at least the 10 rounders we are limited to in CA) detracts from the overall usefulness of a shotgun. You can't easily top up the magazine like you can by throwing a couple more shells up the tube.

Carrying ammo at the ready becomes more of a chore and more costly because you have to purchase additional mags instead of just keeping a couple extra boxes of shells handy.

With practice (albeit more then I am willing to put in) a trained shotgunner can keep his weapon running almost nonstop utilizing rapid reloading techniques from boxes of shells. Whereas the magazines eventually need to be reloaded to be able to continue shooting the Saiga12 unless you are going to go single-shot. Which even that is harder to do on the Saiga12 then the 930.

running mag locks on Saiga12's and VEPRs make it more of a toy
          the mossberg is more practical.

          get both!

My thought was just vepr 12 or saiga. If its for home defense, nothing beats the old 870 or if u wanna go semi, 1100 tactical. Nothing against Mossberg I have one but i just lean towards Remington. Brand loyalty.

OP if you have your heart set on a semi-auto, you should take a look at the ATI Combo pack. It's a 12G semi with an 18.5" HD barrel as well as a 28" hunting barrel with choke tubes included.

Big 5 runs them on sale for $399.

Another option that's several hundred less then the 930 is the Escort semi-auto tactical with ghost ring sights and pistol gripped stock. Again at Big 5 for $439 on sale or Turner's for $479 on sale.

I own both and can give you feed back if you are interested.

Hey HW, is this your first shotgun? Do you have any other shotgun that comes with longer barrel (eg. 26" and longer) for bird/clay shooting?

The reason why I asked is because those "tactical" shotguns marketed to the home defense/zombie slaying consumers are cool to look at but many of them ended up being safe queens. Many owners discovered, too late, after they've bought those shotguns, that they can't use them for some of the most entertaining sports involving shotguns: Trap, Skeet, Sporting Clay and 5 Stand.

They can't use those shotguns because many ranges have rules prohibiting the use of short barreled shotguns for shooting clay targets. I'm not sure where are you're located at but here in the Bay Area, the only range that I know of that will allow short barreled shotgun is the Metcalf Field Sports Park (San Jose).

If you have your sights set on these 2 shotguns, a good alternative would be to get the Mossberg 930 but get their Waterfowl, Duck Commander or All Purpose versions. Make sure you get one with at least 26" barrel so as to be able to use it in as many ranges as possible.

                    Good luck!

if you're going with AK pattern, get the Vepr 12, less fickle with the rounds , which the saiga is notorious for. As for the mossberg 930, it's a great gun, shot it a few times, but my buddy has it jamming on him from time to time. His probably just is a fluke, but you should be good with either one..

and yes, i agree with what some say, just get both

Thanks you all for such support and help. My other question is, does the Vepr 12 Shotgun Russian MOLOT California friendly? Wasn't it 10 round magazine and atleast 18" barrel right? I wonder what the barrel length is for the Vepr 12?

18" barrel is the minimum allowed for ANY shotgun without getting a tax stamp.

In CA the magazine capacity of either is limited to 10rds and HAS to be FIXED in the same way pistol gripped rifles are.
