    James Yeager shotgun video

Kind of a long video, I know, but what do you guys think of it?
Only part I don't understand is having a sling with a tourniquet attached to it on the shotgun.

It was pretty good, they had some good things to say in regards to home defense and tactics. I'll agree with you that the tourniquet attached to the shotgun is unnecessary, however it is a good idea to have a tourniquet in the house along with a good first aid kit.

I think videos from James Yeager youtube channel have some good information in them, however, note that their approach to firearms seems designed more for people who kick in doors of meth labs for a living.

Their over-the-top, gung-ho, eff-this, eff-that, eff-everything style of communication caters to commando wannbes or people who are looking into high risk careers (eg. bounty hunters). You know, people who like to imagine themselves running around "clearing" their house at night.

This video is pretty representative to their approach, you need to have the tourniquet on the shotgun sling because you're "out there" kicking in doors, clearing rooms etc. As a regular home owner, in defensive situation, you'll most likely (or should...), just barricade yourself and call the police. There's no reason why the tourniquet can't be in your first aid kit instead.

In James Yeager's mind, James Yeager is the real-world Chuck Norris. James Yeager is the basis of the Honey Badger story.

I totally agree. I watch his videos because he and his staff DO know what they are talking about, but I adapt everything to be more applicable to civilian life.

If you mess up and ND with a pistol or rifle, you might be able to hold pressure on your daughter's "I don't know who he is daddy" boyfriend.

When you shoot 9 .30/.32 caliber projectiles, it would be more difficult to stop bleeding with direct pressure....

So having a tourniquet on the gun should things go bump in the night might be the reason....

Same with an ND to your own foot or calf.... getting a tourniquet on before shock related blood loss might save you from your own stupidity....

And as other have said, it is good to hear instructors who really don't care about who makes the shotgun, but focus on training with the tool.
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

Obviously having medical equipment as close as possible is a good thing. However, there is a downside to having a sling and tourniquet hanging off of a home defense shotgun. There's usually a ton of stuff in a home that that sling and tourniquet could get hung up on as you navigate through your house. This could be the actual cause of your ND...or it could get you shot while you're trying to untangle yourself.

This really isn't a cut and dry decision IMO. But my home defense shotgun has neither. It does occur to me, however, that a sling could probably be used as a very effective tourniquet pretty easily. So maybe the compromise if you are really concerned about this is to make sure your sling can be quickly detached...and keep one less thing from dangling off your gun.

As for Yeager, I really take whatever he says with a grain of salt. It's unfortunate that whatever good information he does have often gets overshadowed by his style/attitude. I was ok with him up until his infamous, "I'm going to start killing people," video. If you want to be a leader in the gun community, then act like one and keep your emotions in check.

Having something to stop close holes with the thing that makes holes just makes sense. If you CCW then you really should have a small med kit and tourniquet on you as well. It just makes sense. There are a lot of things I don't have that I should have and plan to get as far as firearms related stuff goes and a tourniquet and sling for each long gun is on that list.

If your sling is attached to you, and the gun, and you are are holding the gun, I don't see things getting caught in it if you know you're own home unless you are playing ninja and rolling all over the place.

I really don't see the bad that he did with that video. Did he make an *** out of himself? Maybe, depending on your views. But he hasn't set us back in any of our rights and I don't see or hear anyone on the other side talking about it anymore. The only people that regularly bring it up are in the gun community. Especially his "haters." He's done far more good for shooters than the bad that video could ever do. Think of all of the thousands of people he has trained (over 30k). That's a lot of people out there that are more skilled with their firearms than they were before. The good definitely outweighs the bad.

So some people don't like his adrenaline rush of a personality. So what? How does that affect what he has to say if what he says makes sense? People are so nitpicky, its actually funny at times.

His videos get a lot more views with his more in your face approach than the fat quiet humble Yeager did. More views means more students, means more shooters that know what they are doing, means more people on our side, means new viewers take notice and get into this stuff. He was the first channel I subscribed to when I got into firearms because of his shotgun myths video. If people read less into his personality and more into what he preaches they might learn something. I've never heard anything bad about him from anyone that has ever actually met him and gotten to know him.

And this concludes chapter one. Please flip tape over and hit play for chapter two.

Lol true. I enjoy his vids sometimes but he can get really out there at others.

Think the first time I saw a youtube vid and my first thought was 'damn he needs a bigger shirt' was a yeager vid. Ive run into those type douches in malls, stores, school before but the first time I saw a youtube vid with one was yeager
