Tactical Rail Mount For A Flashlight On A Remington 870 Express

So after doing a bit of searching around net and seeing that there are dozens of options out there to mount a flashlight to the front of a Remington 870, I came across a couple that interested me but I couldn't tell if they would work for my version of the 870. I have the Remington 870 Express Synthetic 4+1 (LINK).

Being that this version does not have a magazine extension I have found it a bit more limiting with which light mounts it may be compatible with. I will add that I am not interested in the forends with built in flashlights like the Insight or the SureFire. They are too heavy and too expensive for the build out I am going for. I rather would like something that just had a simple short rail on it that I could mount my SureFire X300 to. I also didnt really like this style (LINK) as I dont have a good flashlight of that style and again would prefer a tactical rail option.

I had found these two products from GG&G:

    LINK:

    and

    LINK:

But I was unsure as to whether or not the former would work on my version being that there is not a magazine extension. I have tried emailing GG&G in the past regarding compatibility questions with their products but never hear anything back. I didnt really want to go with a new forend as I have the Hogue on there now and like it, but if thats the only way to add this functionality since there is no magazine extension then I guess Ill have to consider it.

Anyone out there have any experience with either of these products or know of another options that might be better or that they have used?

Well I can tell you the closer the light is to the gun the easier it is to operate if you are using a surefire style light with the push button. Are you using just the button or the extended tape switch?

Yea keeping everything close in and tight seemed more logical to me as well which is why I was kinda liking the mount on the forend a little more I just hated the idea of losing the Hogue forend that I just bought for it.

I tried several different attachment methods before finally settling on the GG&G forearm in your second link.

With a 200 lumen Scout light, you get a little bit of barrel shadow but there is still plenty of beam to light up whatever you are aiming at.

Just so you know, if you're right handed and you choose the "right hand" forearm, the rail section will be on the right side.

I am right handed but went with the lefty model because I prefer thumb activation.

Thanks M16 that is VERY useful information. I was wondering which side handed version I would need if I went that route as I would like the light on the left side too being a right handed shooter and wanting to control the light with my thumb. It looks like the GG&G complete forend is what its going to have to be. I guess Ill have to sell the Hogue one I havent even installed yet. Oh well, at least I can use the 12" LOP stock from the Houge kit still.

How does the GG&G forend feel? Are those edges sharp or rounded and soft? The stock forend feels kinda rough on my hands and its ribbed like the GG&G (though they do look less on the GG&G) which is why I liked the Houge so much.

It's actually a factory Remington part that's been modified, it's the same forearm that comes on synthetic Police Magnums.

It feels good, I also have the Hogue 12" stock so this is what you will end up with:

Okay, thats very useful to know. Thanks! And is that the Mesa Tactical Shotshell 6-Round holder? I bought that as well. So you just posted a picture of exactly what my 870 will look like once its done! Nice! Well minus the magazine extension that is. Im keeping mine a 4+1. I cant tell from the pic, but what did you pick for a front strap mount? I can see the GG&G style one in the rear.

Yep, that's a Mesa shell holder.

Sling adapter is actually a Daniel Defense but it's exactly the same as the GG&G.

I don't have a front attachment point because I use a single point sling, but the Vang mag extension did come with one that is removable.

I should add, if you go with the Mesa shell holder, ask for one of the white inserts because the ones they normally supply are too soft and don't retain the shells very well.

I didn't buy mine directly from Mesa, but they sent me a couple of inserts for free which I thought was cool.
