I want to get a new shotgun but I am stuck between what one to pick. I'M looking at the Mossberg 930 spx, FN slp 18" and the Remington 1100 tac2. What are your thoughts?

FN, Mossberg or Remington?

I hear good things about the beretta 1301 tactical/competition as well.
safe - semi - full semi -
You might consider one of the Escort semi-auto shotguns or the new semi that ATI imports. Both brands are made in Turkey and offer EXCELLENT value for the money. The Escort tactical semi goes on sale for $440 bucks or so from Big5 pretty regularly. I got the ATI combo for $413 OTD from my local Big5 (on sale for $399 plus a 10% off coupon)
I am not sure who makes the ATI shotty but the Escort is made by Hatsan, which has been in the arms manufacturing business for longer (300 years or so) then ANY American company. One of the Turkish manufacturers also makes the Mossberg semi-auto 20G.
I own two Escorts (a 12G tactical semi and a youth model 20G semi) as well as the ATI semi combo pack (18.5"/28" barrels) and have been VERY impressed with all three of them.Comment

If looking for a tactical/ maybe comp shotgun I would go with the JM 930 over the SPX and the versamax over the 1100. Of the 3 shotguns YOU mentioned I would take the FN SLP all day. I have shot a TON of shotguns because they are my favorite weapon system hands down and in the comp circles there are about 4 used pretty exclusively and I have been able to shoot them alot. If I were to drop the $$ on a shotgun at the moment it would be one of these (in no order)
1) M2
2) Veramax
3)FNH SLP
4)Browning A5 (if the maxus could take an extention tube I would take that but it cant so the A5 gets my vote as the next best thing.
The Mossberg can be a little troublesome and I used to have a 930 JM, for the $ it was a decent shotgun but it had its problems and I dont keep guns in my safe that arent 100% reliable. I have not had as much as a hicup from the shotguns I listed.
As someone said above the 1301 comp has been getting good reviews but I have never put one through its paces so I dont know how they do.Comment

My 1301 Comp has been awesome - 100% reliable no matter what ammo I have fed it. The 21" barrel would work well enough for 3-gun, and is adequately short for HD use as well. Add a Nordic Components magazine extension to up the OEM capacity. I went with a +2 which terminates a little short of the barrel tip, and I've got 7+1 capacity. A +3 would be just a bit longer than the end of the barrel, if you absolutely need 1 more round. And stock it comes with oversize cocking handle, bolt release and safety, so no need for any upgrades there. Plus the safety is in the "correct" location - at least it is if you have not been brought up on Remington shotguns
I've had issues with my Mossberg 930. Seems like those guns can be hit-or-miss consistency wise as some folks love theirs. Mine works well enough with specific ammo, but chokes consistently with other. Maybe this will resolve itself with more rounds through it, but I can say that it was night-and-day different between the Mossberg and the Beretta out of the box.Last edited by tmh1; 04-08-2014, 4:25 PM.sigpic

The one odd thing about the Beretta 1301 Competition, is that it seems to have been removed from Beretta USA's web site. They have a 1301 Tactical in its place.Comment

Stay away from the Remington 1100 Tac 2. I had a 1100 CM and it did not hold up. Other shooters I know shooting the 1100 Tac have had many problems with reliability.
Remington Versa Max 3 Gun Competition Model is the one to get.
Then the FN, then the Mossberg. But if you can afford it the Taran Tactical M2
is the top of the line.Last edited by 3GunFunShooter; 04-09-2014, 6:45 AM.If you can't shoot good, at least look good shootingComment

That TT M2 is double the price of the others listed, BUT the last 3 gun match I did (this last sat) I used one and its a pretty damn sweet set up. If your not getting into 3 gun save the money.Stay away from the Remington 1100 Tac 2. I had a 1100 CM and it did not hold up. Either have shooter I know shooting the 1100 Tac.

If you want a pistol grip, get a Remington. If you want a traditional stock, go for the Mossberg. This is due to the location of the safety.~ El Frito
