    REMINGTON 870 Security

I saw in the paper today that Big 5 has the 870 8-shot Security model shotgun on sale for $299.99 after $30 mail in rebate. Is this a good deal?

Probably as good as you'll find for a new 870, in that configuration.

No, the 18" barreled ones with the +2 extension were as low as $299 when I was there. You're probably thinking of the 28" Express that was $259 on sale.

Sports Authority reported at $259 for security model this week according to another thread.

Not sure if that was before or after $30 rebate as some confusion in the thread.

Also reported no guns in SOCAL for Sports Authority.

At todays prices you will not do better than this price. If you like to waste a lot of time searching and searching the for sale adds for like months and months you might find one for $225-$250. Keep in mind you will be working for like 25 cents an hour to get that better price.

If you are looking for more value get the $229 (I think its now $249) mossberg with the security 18" and vent rib 28" barrel. The barrels alone on these shotguns sell for $120-$180 so that has the best value. Just I don't like not having the screw in chokes. I have the 870 with an 18", 21" RC rifle sites, 28" RC vent rib and I like the versatility, but I bought it originally as a kit for $229 back in the day like 20 years ago. They don't seem to sell them that way anymore and now it would seem to be not much more expensive to buy two 870's rather than two barrels for one 870.

When I got my 20 ga combo for $220 in 2000 at Big 5 the longer barrel was a interchangeable chokeversion.

The register at Big 5 in San Lorenzo, CA rings up at $319.99 even though the price tag says $329.99. Add the $30 rebate, and your down to $289.99... NICE!

Something's not right there. Are the numbers wrong or are you talking about a different shotgun?

You are corect. I had a typo with the price. I just meant to say that I got it for $10 less than advertised, not $110. Thanks for the catch.

I think 299.99 is about the cheapest you are going to find one.
