Hi there, I have a pre serial # Stevens model 94c single shot in .410. The other day I took it out of the safe and heard something rattling around inside the action. I did the basic field strip of pulling the fore end and barrel. Then out came a small (1/4" long) piece steel with an obvious broken end. Last time I shot it was sometime ago but it worked fine.
Not being afraid of tools I did a little research and started the disassembly process. After removing the buttstock I could see the very heavy hammer spring, which is heavy and too hard for my son to function. Funny thing is I don't recall it being stuff when I bought. Anyway I pulled the pin that holds the hammer which told me how much tension was on the spring. I still can't figure out where this broken piece came from but I also can't get the hammer strut/spring back in. Does anyone have any experience with this shotgun that can help me out?
