ideas for my remington 870 build

So I'm stuck about half ways in upgrading my 870 shotgun.

So far the upgrades are vang comp chrome follower, and oversized rounded safety, barrel honed, black aces 870 rail, magpul afg, and a railed pump.

Mesa tactical makes a high rail hydraulic telescoping stock with a rail varying from 9 to 24" rail lengths. I can't part the kit together from mesa tactical and they wont ship the high rail kit sans rail.

Should I off load and sell the black aces rail and go with the 24" rail hydraulic high tube set up. The setup from mesa tactical is just shy of 600 so I'm trying to finish the build with a budget.
I'm looking at a couple of circle dot red dot holographic sights to rail mount to the gun and buis

    What do you guys think

Off topic, but for that amount of money, would you consider the Bullpup for your 870?

I would personally think that would make for a heavy shotgun. Is drilling and tapping your receiver for a rail and option for you? That way you could have a red dot and save some money. It would also make it lighter. My experience with a telescoping stock started and ended with the Blackhawk model with the recoil reducing springs. Got rid of that pretty quick. Wasn't as comfortable as I thought it would be. I ended up ordering the LE 13" LOP Remington stock from AIPPI and it was a real good fit. Never saw the need to change.

Just my opinion to keep it simple and light.

I'm getting the adjustable stock so me and the wife can shoot the same gun that is also why I'm getting the hydraulic recoil buffer system as well.

I don't have the necessary tools to drill and tap anymore and wouldn't trust myself to do that on a gun as its been a while since I monkeyed around with that stuff

You are well on your way to making a heavy, unwieldy, tactical boat anchor.

Here is my preferred 870 tactical set up:

The only upgrades are a Wolff magazine spring and aluminum follower. Old school Wingmaster, no plastic parts and impossibly smooth action.

A decent buttpad and low recoil buckshot are completely manageable for any shooter

I'd pay to get my gun drilled and tapped for a short rail section properly done. Buy once, cry once. When it comes to wives and 12 gauge no amount of mods seem to change there minds. They either shoot it or hate it. I'd build the gun for you.

I would go with the Mesa Tac set up, good stuff.

When did Vang start selling chrome followers?

I bought two a month ago and they were stainless.

Stainless or chrome I can't remember off the top of my head. I ordered parts off brownells over a year ago to get started with.

I've been looking into a couple circle dot sights and I'm interested in knowing what you guys have used or at least what you would like to get

What distances are you planning on shooting slugs at, that you don't wish to use the bead?

                      Ricigliano's rig ftw.

                      Here are mine:

Both are taken to the range regularly, but the parkerized smooth-bore barrel w/ rifle sights has a MOD choke and has yet to be patterned with my various 00 buck loads. The first Wingmaster is wearing a blued cylinder-bore bead-sight barrel. It patterns 00 buck tightly at distances less than 15 yards.

25 yards and less. I just never got used to the bead sight. I learned to shoot on an m1garand and I'm used to front and rear sights. I looked into the ghost ring option but found it easier to mount a rail and use AR style optics that I'm more comfortable with.

I usually shoot bird shot, 00 buck, and no4 shot. Slugs usually when I can find them cheap enough.

+1, have you seen the military's 590's? They are bone stock. All that extra stuff does nothing to improve the shotgun imo. Use your funds for another firearms.

Exactly. Make it simple any of these above guns and some Federal LE13200 /12700 make these guns accurate and deadly with buckshot out to 40 yards with an IC choke. I used to shoot lots of LE13200. Very good ammo.
