    C-Stock Legality Question

Can some please enlighten me. Is a Remington 870 w/ a collapsible stock legal simply because it is a pump and not a semi auto? Or are collapsible stock on all shotguns illegal? Yes I looked at the CA Shotgun Flowchart just trying to figure out the difference between say a Remington 870 vs a Benelli M4 and how stocks change the legality of them. Thanks

im pretty sure you can do whatever the hell you want to a pump shotgun except chop the barrel under 18" or extend the capacity to over 10 and still be legal as long as its a minimum of 26" long.

Yes, because it's a pump a collapsible stock is legal on an 870 so long as the overall length isn't below 26" at the shortest setting which is exactly what the chart says. Don't try to figure out how it's legal on one shotgun while it's illegal on another. That will just give you a headache and make you mad at the same time.

Read question 11 very carefully. That is the difference between an 870 and m4.

Start with the collapsible stock 870, answer every question.

Start again with the collapsible stock m4, answer every question.

You will find 2 very clear results. Don't skip questions, don't use the flow chart out of order.

You can also consult the text of the law. It's really very simple. With regard to shotguns, a prohibited assault weapon is:

o A semiautomatic shotgun that has both of the following:

            - A folding or telescoping stock.
            - A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon, thumbhole stock, or vertical handgrip.

o A semiautomatic shotgun that has the ability to accept a detachable magazine.

o Any shotgun with a revolving cylinder.
