Old remington side by side Damascus shotgun question

Hey Calguns, so I got this shotgun from my father in-law a week ago. I have
done a search on here and on google and came to the conclusion its a remington
    damascus barreled shot gun..

Remington because in faint stamping it says Remington Co. on the side, and Damascus because what I though were fingerprints were actually etching.

My question is how do you remove rust on a Damascus barrel without ruining the etching. Any help would be appreciated.

    thanks AJ.

i have a damascus lefever sxs that was my great grandfathers. it is a shooter with handloaded pyrodex.
what you have there is a wall hanger and a very good one. don't remove the rust it will leave the metal "in the white" where you do and look like heck.
use a brass brush to knock off what little loose rust i see there and get some oil into it. think "building up patina" instead of exposing bare metal.
What do you call the people that abandoned the agenda of John Kennedy and adopted the agenda of Lee Oswald?

      Pronouns: "Dude" and "Playa".

thanks for the advice, this is what I was more or less thinking of doing. Just try and clean it up as best as I can and keep it as an heirloom/wall hanger. Thanks stonefly.
