    First Shotgun

Just got back from Turners in FV after putting my first Shotgun in jail

I finally settled on a Maverick 88 with the 18.5 barrel.

    Now to start collecting ammo!

Pretty excited to take this out for a test drive at the Zombie Shoot in 4 weeks

Sweet, I hear that's the way to go when it comes to a budget pump shotgun. Pick up some Winchester value packs at WalMart and visit the range!

If your city allows online ammo purchase, I would recommend buying online. Places like sgammo.com, gandermountain.com, cabelas.com and laxammo.com are the usually places I check for ammo.

sgammo.com is very good if you're into the tactical/HD stuffs like buckshots and slugs.

Yes! sgammo is awesome... they're my go-to site for 5.45x39; always seems to be in-stock and the prices +shipping are very fair.

The Maverick 88 is a fine boomstick. Congrats!

One thing you might consider is replacing the forend with a new action slide tube assembly and action tube nut. This will open many options for different forends if you don't like the stock one.

                Nice!

If you dont mind if i ask how much you paid for the maverick 88?

Everytime i go to my local big 5 its out of stock.

Anyways, i think imma end up buying the winchester super x defender as my first shotgun.

My Wife just picked up her Remington 870 20 gauge (youth model) last night. It is a nice gun. One question, Does a new gun need to be cleaned?

Most guns come shipped with a lot of grease and rust preventative in the action and barrel, so yes, they should be cleaned at least one time before you take it shooting.

I feel it also helps you become familiar with how the gun operates so if something happens on the range, you feel more confident in troubleshooting it. I'm also a mechanical engineer so I am always looking at how things work, so it may just be me.

Absolutely! Guns from the factory come with a layer of packing grease to prevent rust during storage and shipping before sale, so it is very important to thoroughly clean and properly lubricate the gun before using it for the first time.
