    870 bead too low.

    I have a Remington 870 with 26 in barrel and bead sight for sporting clays and i have noticed i cant get low enough on the shotgun without smashing my face (hard) into the stock. Every time we go to the range I feel like I've been punched in the face. Anyone else have this problem and anyone know an easy fix? the gun is stock

    when i get a normal cheek weld i can see the ribbed rail following up to the bead and i know the bead should look like a BB on a flat surface.

    That may not be bad. What you describe is how I like my sight picture to look. The only way to know for sure would be to pattern the gun to see if the POA and POI are where you want them...

      Depending on how the stock fits you, either:

      The comb could be too high on your stock and you probably need more drop in the stock.

      or;

      If you get a longer length of pull, you can put your face further forward and it will change the angle of your face and put your eye lower. Try putting a 1/2" or 3/4" thick pad between the butt and your shoulder and see if that helps.

        Yup, it's a fit problem. A long stock, or more drop, or less comb height. The first being the easiest to do (add length of pull).

          Read stock fitters bible. You've got a fit problem. Book written for everyday shooters and best shotgunning book I've read.

            If I were to guess, I'll say the LOP is too short. After some experimenting, I know the LOP for me is about 13 7/8" on the Benelli SuperSport. When I use my wife's Benelli M2 Field Compact that has a LOP of 13 1/8", I have the same issue as you in that I'll see more rib with I mount the gun, and I shoot higher.

            How tall are you? I think the 870 comes with a LOP of 14", if you're really tall (eg. over 6 feet 5) and/or have long arms, it might be too short for your comfort.

              im 6ft 2in. gun feels fine, not too big or small. im thinking if i place my head further up it may help. sucks cuz i left my shotgun at my pops house. he has a benelli m2 that shoots perfect. i tend to shoot high with my gun. ill play with the stock since i was about to invest in a rail and a reddot to bring the sighting a little bit up. also im going to check out the stock fitters bible. thanks guys

                The catalog lists the LOP at 14" and the drop at comb at 1 1/2".
                I'm 6'2.5" 185lbs, I have the LOP on my shotgun set at 14 1/8" with the drop at comb at 1 5/16". My gun shoots about 60/40, right where I like it.
                Pattern the gun with a "normal" cheek weld, then decide if something needs to change.
                Remember, a gun that shoots a little high allows better vision of a target over the barrel, you never need to cover it up.
                Do read the stock fitters bible, lots of good information there...

                    No one can tell you what's wrong here. You need to check for pitch, drop at heel, cast, lop, and drop at comb. In that order. Read the bible noted above. It's awesome!
