Buying a youth size 870 rem stock/ 1 size fit all?

I have a 870 12 gauge, I want to install a shorter stock. I see some 11 3/4 and 12 lop stocks on amazon and midway usa. Some are listed for 12 and 20 gauge, will both gauges interchange? Will a stock made for a 20 gauge 870 fit on my 12 gauge 870?

This Hogue 12" LOP stock (or similar listings) in Amazon will go well with your 870.

Rem 870 12 gauge and 20 gauge receivers are differently sized, so the stocks are not interchangeable.

          Huh?

20's with an "N" or "X" serial number were produced on 12ga frames.

So the stocks definitely are interchangeable among those weapons.

OP, HoosierGunworks.com may be able to help.

You're talking about an obscure gun that's no longer produced, and hasn't been for a while.

To adjust between my wife and me, on our 20 ga. I use a Choate stock, comes with removable and adjustable butt pads and spacers, the old Remington Bantam stock did too.

I have a 20 ga knoxx stock, with cheek riser I'm not using, make me a reasonable offer, its adjustable. My wife didn't like the way it moved on the springs during recoil.

How long ago were they produced? Every 20 gauge I've seen for the last ten years has been the smaller receiver (I have a CAD file of the receiver). The same receiver is used for Remington 7500 rifles.

Anyway, the OP asked if a 20 gauge stock will fit his 12 gauge receiver. Obviously any stock that is designated as a 20 gauge stock is for the smaller receiver. Otherwise it would be designated 12 gauge or both.

OP: 20 gauge Rem 870 stocks will not fit on 12 gauge receivers. However, during the last decade more and more options have come onto the market for shorter stocks. As you noted you can look for "youth" stocks, but you can also seek "tactical" stocks. At least one manufacturer (Speedfeed, I think) markets a "tactical" stock that is simply their old "youth" stock with new packaging.
