    New to the Shotgun World!

Hello my fellow gun owners. I just picked up a 1980 Browning BPS 12 gauge pump action. Any feedback from anyone that own's or has owned one?

    Hello,

Congrats on the new shotgun, I've had a BPS for some time, and they are great shooting guns. I never had a problem with mine, it shot every time I pulled the trigger, and ate every thing I fed it, as any good pump should. The bluing on mine started to wear considerably, and I sent it in to be refinished, and now sits with my father as his back up turkey gun. What do you plan to do with it?

I have two of them. A 12 gauge synthetic and a 16 gauge upland. Great guns and very reliable. When cleaning make sure you follow the instructions when removing and replacing the trigger assembly. It can become very frustrating if you are not doing it exactly as it has to be done.
There is a great thread on shotgunworld.com under Browning shotguns with pics that is very helpful.

      Enjoy your BPS.

I plan to just do some clay shooting and eventually I'd like to find some people who do some bird hunting and maybe some varmint or turkey hunting so I can tag along and learn

I have one and really like it. The bottom ejection, and the single round selector that cuts off the magazine is a unique feature that actually is practical in field hunting. Mine is not an interchangeable choke barrel, one thing I wish it had.

I picked up a bps last year put a massive max extension on it and also got a rifled barrel invade I ever go pig shooting. The action is smooth as glass and being a lefty I love the downward hull ejection. I would love to know where I can get a barrel stabilizing split ring though

I just need to learn how to clean mine so I can go shoot it. It's really dirty

Here's a link to the PDF of the owners manual. I am using Hornady One Shot cleaner and dry lube on all my rimfire guns, and think it might work well for my shotguns too, considering the dusty environment they are sometimes subjected to.
