What tactical shotgun should I buy?

Ready to buy one of the above. What would be your pick and why?

870.....every company makes every accessory possible for it.

All are great guns bone stock but I see people all day at gun shows who say. "Do you have **blank** for a FN/500???".."You know any places that make one???"

Just like bolt guns....howa and savage make great guns....but when it comes to aftermarket the remmy 700 has way more choices.

Another point to consider is what you're used to.

I've been shooting model 12's and 870s for years, so the layout and function for me makes the most sense.

In comparison, my friend has been shooting mossbergs for years. So when he handles my 870, he has a wtf look on his face. Same for me when I handle his mossberg.

Thanks for the replies. I think I will rule out the FN. I new to shotguns so I would have to learn how the REM and Moss work. Held both at Gun Exchange today. I really like the Moss 500a.

+1 with Trapshot68. The location of controls are very different. Also, the safety location is more pistol grip friendly on an 870 should your plans include one. With use of a conventional stock, the 500 safety is easier to reach.

Lots of threads on this with good information if you use the search feature, these thread helped me select my first HD Shotgun.

But to answer your question, I have both.
In terms of after market accessories, it's almost a wash between the 870 and 500, but the slight tilt goes to the 870.
I personally don't like the location of the 500 safety (top of the gun) versus the 870 (at the trigger guard).
The 870 I actually convert to a field gun sometimes (turkey) and find it easier of the two to do that with.

Whichever way you go, get the Knoxx Recoil Absorbing Stock w/side saddle.

If you end up going with a Mossberg, look for a 590A1 over the 500 for a tactical base. It's the model used by the military and is a good bit tougher than the 500. I have both and they are both great, but if I were taking one to a fight, it'd be the 590.

It must have a pistol grip buttstock.

It needs a side-saddle.

Once lights, lasers, extra ammo, etc. are added, it becomes too heavy to handle.

Anything by Vang is more than tactical.

It's a lot like expressing your independence by buying that Harley...you can dress up just like all the other Harley riders and advertise your individuality by having the same bike.

A long time friend with lots of experience convinced me to buy a Remington 870 Shotgun because of durability, parts availability nationwide & ease of repair so I bought 2 used Wingmasters in 1976:12g & 20g with Trap & Skeet barrels,sold the 20g when my son outgrew it but still have the 12g.I had a bad experience with a Mossberg 9200 semi auto that would fire 3" shells, it grenaded on my 2 3/4" Win AA duck reloads I fire in my 870 & Win mod 12 w/o problems.When I checked the damage I used my thumb & forefinger to squeeze the aluminum receiver back together,Mossberg sent me a new 9200 but when I checked I noticed more aluminum turnings in the receiver everytime I pulled the bolt back to check the action.Never will buy any aluminum receiver with a steel bolt & barrel after that experience

I like the Mossberg safety location on top. Why? Because my Beretta O/U has its safety on top as well, so I still retain the same muscle memory when I use either of the two shotguns.

It's all a matter of preferrence.
