I recently starting having some issues with light primer strikes. At first they were really rare but today I had two in a row. Anyone have experience with this or know of a solution?

Mossberg 500 light primer strike

Does it happen with any ammo, or just a particular brand? Does it dent the primer at all?
Could be a few things... Weak firing pin return spring, damaged or out of spec firing pin, poor quality primers, or just crud in the gun. Whens the last time you cleaned the firing pin area? -
It has happened with multiple brands and there is always a dimple on the primer. The gun is only about a year old, so I would like to be able to assume the pin return spring and firing pin are OK. The primers are certainly not the cause. Whenever I clean it I usually put the bolt assembly and trigger assembly to the side, maybe a light brushing. I don't have the tools or knowledge to really take them apart. Any suggestions on the best way to get any crud out?

You could always buy some G96 gun treatment or any other CLP product (clean, lubricate, protect). Blast it into the trigger assembly and firing pin area and allow it to flush out the crud. I recommend the G96 because it works very well and comes with a small straw that you can aim into small crevices. Just make sure you allow all of the treated parts sufficient time to dry, if you shoot it too wet it'll just collect more crud. I do this everytime I shoot, but I'm anal about keeping my guns clean.Comment

How about just take it apart and clean it?Comment

There are many videos on YouTube. Take it apart and clean it. It could be the firing pin (you'll know once you take it apart) if not upgrade the firing pin spring. It will cost $7-10.Comment
