    Smith & Wesson 1000t

I inherited my Dads Smith & Wesson 1000 Trap Model. There is a wire across the area the shells eject from. I know the wire is to catch the shell, making it more convenient for the trap shooter. But how does one go about removing it ?

I've never seen that in a 1000, and I've had a lot of them apart. Most likely screwed into the inside of the receiver.
With the bolt closed, knock out the two pins that hold the trigger group in, and drop it out. Then you should be able to see where it's attached.
Extremely important on these guns, that the rubber recoil shock absorber washer is intact. The originals would turn into a black tar from oil and bore solvent, newer replacements were made to avoid that.
Remove the forearm, and look into the bottom rear of the slot in the magazine tube. The black rubber washer should be visible, and about 1/4" forward of the rear of the slot. If it isn't, Don't shoot the gun!
The pin that rides in that slot, will slam into the rear of that slot, and bulge the mag tube, eventually locking up the action. Replacement mag tubes are not available, I got the last one that Numrich had.

      Thanks Trap55
I'll hopefully have time to take it apart this weekend. My Dad would let me borrow it whenever we went out Trap Shooting and I never gave it a second thought.

I've got two 1000's I "salvaged" from being wall hangers. The 1000 auto and the 1000P pump were Remington 1100 and 870 clones built by Howa for S&W. When S&W got out of the shotgun market about 1986, Mossberg picked up these two model for 2 or 3 years before they discontinued them.
Both are improvements on the Remingtons, better balanced and better made, but the auto had one flaw. The gas valve in the end of the mag tube would blow out the valve. Now Numrich is out of stock on those too.
If you need help on it, PM me.
