    ATI top folders, are they junk?

    I've been looking for a factory top folder and I'm not having much luck.

    Considering the ATI offering but I haven't had the opportunity to check one out in person.

    Just curious if any of you have one and what you think about the quality.

      Good deal, would you happen to know what the LOP is?

        I've also got one on a Mossberg 500. It works well extended or folded, and is very solid. Some notable things though…

        1. Cheek weld area is not too cheek-friendly;
        2. I would prefer slightly shorter LOP;
        3. No padding to speak of, so be prepared for a good donkey kick to your shoulder with magnum loads;
        4. Pistol grip stocks are not great for tang safety access—the ATI folder makes it yet more challenging.

          Thanks for the info, I already have an 870P set up as a defensive shotgun and a Wingmaster that is a dedicated trap gun.

          I have an Express Magnum sitting here that I got for $100 and I don't know what to do with it, so I am kicking around the idea of turning it into a door breacher that can be fired from the shoulder if needed.

          Several people have told me the cheek weld sucks with top folders, but I doubt I'll be putting my cheek on it much so it's not really a concern.

          I just want something short that is fun to shoot and this looks like the best option, not really interested in going the AOW route.

            Wait, what?

            I thought the ATI was metal, I had no idea it was plastic.

            I think I'll keep searching for a factory folder.

              You planning on doing a lot of door breaching? I got a folding stock for free. I put it on a 500 and threw a short barrel on it. I sold it shortly after shooting it. Looks cool ips about it. I did make money on it because it looked tactical.

                Well, I did go through the course but no I don't plan on doing a lot of it now.

                I want a short shotgun, without having to deal with a trust or a long wait.

                I thought about slapping a pistol grip on this shotgun but it would be nice if it could also be shouldered if I ever felt like it.

                Honestly this gun will only get used out in the desert, but it will be used so it's not like it's going to sit in the back of the safe.

                  LOP is 14" on the Rem 870.

                  I personally am not in love with the way it shoulders, but it serves it's purpose well. Which is to fit in a small storage compartment in my camping trailer. Between the OO and slugs, I should be able to deal with any wildlife that may come around.

                    Man that is long!

                    Any way to shorten it?

                    There's a thread on another forum where a guy shortened a Remington folder, I wonder if the same can be done to the ATI.
