    First ata shoot

Just shot at my first ATA event. Shot 100 off 16. And 100 off 20. Had lousy day. But still was a blast.

And it's inspiring to see shooters who can run 100. And some newbies shooting in mid 90s.

Congratulations on taking that first step. It's a pleasure and education to watch good shooters and ATA events are where they're at. Your game will improve by shooting ATA, just don't get discouraged by a bad round or outing.

Not discouraged at all. Haven't been shooting well for couple weeks. Wasn't like I choked. I'll get my game back.

Basically with ATA you pay same price as practice. But get score keeping, great squad mates and terrific trap field.

How was it? Were you nervous or does it felt the same as when you're practicing?

Felt similar to practice rounds. I've got enough to worry about with work and family. I'm not gonna stress myself out over missing few birds. I'll quit shooting when I beat myself up over a bad round or two. The way you are shooting you should go for it. Scores ranged from low 60s to 100 off the 16 for the event.

One thing that surprised me was seeing range staff going out to trap houses while shooters still shooting on adjacent fields. Looked a little unsafe to me.

Thanks, I will give this some thought. The major problem I have, is that the range I like going the most is Coyote Valley and their trap house is a little strange and not really ATA standard. They do have a setting you can toggle but it doesn't work all the time. So most of the time I'm actually shooting wobble trap. I never knew this until I was invited to shoot at Sunnyvale Rod & Gun by one of their members I met at Coyote Valley.

Wobble trap is much harder than flat or ata trap. You'll be fine.

Find out where they have ata shoots near you. And practice there.

Good luck. Ata shoots are run well score keeper and all. And whole event was pretty low key and fun.
