12g 11-87 Special Purpose cycling /w light loads?

Alright, I've been reading 11-87's with barrels shorter than 26" aren't designed to cycle lighter target loads. Fair enough as they're designed for deer, turkey, etc. but how will the 12g 26" Special Purpose handle target loads?

I've got one in gun jail at the moment and was wondering what the minimum load it'd handle is.

Anyone else here ever own one? I just bought a few boxes of 2 3/4" Remington Game Loads /w 1oz #7.5 shot rated at 1290 FPS. I'm just wondering if that'll be hot enough for it to cycle reliably. I'm thinking yes but I'm not certain.

I'm hoping it'll handle at least SOME of the lighter target loads, but if not, I'm not all that concerned because I purchased the shotgun mainly for upland hunting and don't mind feeding it the good stuff.

If your going to shoot only light loads, it not difficult to open up the gas port to make it cycle reliably.

I'm guessing you mean boring them out with a drill bit? I'd rather not do that because I'd still like to use heavier loads as well for turkey or ducks.

That is a sporting shotgun with what you said was a 26" barrel and wil have no issues with game loads. The issue comes in when people try to use light loads out of short barrels designed for heavy loads. Never bubba up the gas orifices on these barrels. They are designed for that weapon and certain loads. Also, you have to fire this gun from a solid shoulder for it to cycle properly. Many of the people posting in cycling issues with semi-autos are failing to to that so their info is incorrect.

I you want a Remington semi-auto that cycles with any load you have to look at the Versa Max.

If you're going to a gun fight, take a shotgun. If you can't take a shotgun, don't go.

          Comprehension?

The 26" SP barrel is obviously not shorter than 26"...mine has shot 5K or so target (usually AA's) and light game loads over the years, never a failure to go boom and cycle the action.

Barrels less than 26" have smaller gas holes, as they're designed for more lively ammo. I use a 20"-ish turkey barrel with a very full choke for one of my hd guns.

lol yeah that looks confusing. I guess what I meant to ask was "do some of the 26" Special Purpose models have this issue?" I've read on another forum that even some longer barrel models can be picky with lighter loads, although it's mainly the turkey and deer guns, obviously.

I've been searching for specific specs on the Special Purpose model but I can't seem to find any, possibly because there aren't many differences from the standard models worth noting. Does anyone here know what the differences are aside from the parkerized or matte finishes?

Anyway, I plan to put this 11-87 to good use, probably almost every single weekend, either on the clays range or out in the field. Thanks for the responses!
